Monsters Back-And-Forth Ends in 6-5 Overtime Loss to Amerks

ROCHESTER, NY - The Cleveland Monsters fell to the Rochester Americans 6-5 in overtime on Saturday night at Blue Cross Arena. With the overtime loss, the Monsters are now 21-24-8-4 and are currently in seventh place in the AHL's North Division standings.

Rochester's Jack Quinn opened the scoring at 4:10 of the first period, but Tristan Mullin responded with a tally at 13:27 off a feed from Justin Scott tying the game 1-1 after 20 minutes. Roman Ahcan scored his first professional goal at 1:35 of the second period assisted by Trey Fix-Wolansky and Scott Harrington pushing Cleveland into the lead. Jake Gaudet added onto the lead with a shorthanded tally at 5:21 with helpers from Tyler Sikura and Jake Christiansen followed by a marker from Tyler Angle at 9:26 assisted by Thomas Schemitsch moving the score to 4-1. The Amerks tied the game with goals from Nick Boka at 12:36, Josh Teves at 13:09 and Arttu Ruotsalainen at 18:47 making the score 4-4 heading into the final intermission. Zach Jordan notched a marker at 6:15 of the third period with a helper from Gaudet, but Michael Mersch forced the game to overtime after a power-play tally at 10:07. Despite several scoring chances for the Monsters, Mark Jankowski grabbed the game winner at 4:44 of the extra frame bringing the final score to 6-5.

Cleveland's Jean-Francois Berube made 18 saves in defeat while Rochester's Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 34 saves for the victory.
