Big Second Period Leads Rocket to 5-1 Win over Bears
March 19, 2022 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
(Laval, QC) - The Laval Rocket scored four times in the second period on the way to a 5-1 win over the Hershey Bears on Saturday afternoon at Place Bell. With the loss, Hershey's record fell to 29-23-5-3 this season, with the Bears going 0-2-1-0 on the club's Canadian road trip.
The Bears opened the scoring just 4:03 into the game on Bobby Nardella's 5th goal of the season. Hershey connected on the power play for the second straight game, as Nardella pounded on a rebound off a Garrett Pilon shot. Pilon and Mike Sgarbossa assisted.
In the second period, Laval pounced on the Bears, striking four times before the frame ended. Justin Decharme got Laval's scoring started, wheeling out of the far corner, and snapping a shot past Hershey goaltender Zach Fucale to make it 1-1 at 3:48.
Kevin Roy then made it 2-1 for the Rocket, scoring at 5:50. His shot from the corner deflected off the pad of Fucale and into the net. At 9:16, longtime NHL'er Cedric Pauqette scored on a rush from the left wing. He snapped a shot that eluded Fucale shortside to make it 3-1.
Before the period ended, Rafael Harvey-Pinard scored his third goal versus Hershey this season, redirecting a Xavier Ouellet shot into the net to make it 4-1 at 13:11. The goal was a power play marker.
In the third period, Hershey pulled Fucale for an extra-attacker in the game's closing minutes, and Brandon Gignac sealed the win for the home team, scoring into the vacated goal at 17:17 to make it 5-1.
Laval goaltender Kevin Poulin earned the win with 29 saves. Shots favored the Bears 30-20, including 13-2 in the third period. Both teams went 1-for-2 on the power play.
The Bears return to action on Wednesday at GIANT Center versus the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The puck drops at 7 p.m. for UGI Matt Moulson Bobblehead Night for the first 4,000 fans. Tickets are available at HersheyBears.com.
