LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

Vs. Providence (2/24): Goaltender Daniel Taylor stopped 45 shots from the Providence Bruins and three in the shootout as the Manchester Monarchs won, 3-2, in a shootout on Max's 8th birthday at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Tuesday night. Center Oscar Moller, left wing Vladimir Dravecky and left wing Scott Parse scored on goaltender Tuukka Rask in the shootout. Center Wacey Rabbit was the lone Bruins player to score on Taylor in the shootout. Moller and right wing Trevor Lewis scored in regulation for the Monarchs. Defenseman Johnny Boychuk and center Vladimir Sobotka scored for the Bruins. Taylor (7-2-0) earned his seventh win of the season with 45 saves on 47 shots. Rask (24-17-1) took his first shootout loss of the season with 27 saves. Manchester went 0-1 on the power play. Providence was 0-1 with the man advantage.

At Hartford (2/27): Right wing P.A. Parenteau picked up the lone shootout goal as the Manchester Monarchs fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack, 2-1, in a shootout at the XL Center on Friday night. Wolf Pack netminder Matt Zaba stopped center Oscar Moller, center Justin Azevedo, left wing Vladimir Dravecky, center Gabe Gauthier and right wing Trevor Lewis in the shootout. Monarchs' goaltender Daniel Taylor stopped 4-of-5 snipers in the shootout as he denied left wing Sean Avery, center Greg Moore, left wing Patrick Rissmiller and center Tommy Pyatt. Parenteau was the only player to score a goal in the shootout. Azevedo scored the lone goal in regulation for the Monarchs. Defenseman Corey Potter scored in regulation for the Wolf Pack. Taylor (7-2-1) took his first shootout loss of the season with 23 saves in regulation and 4-of-5 in the shootout. Zaba (16-8-0) picked up his 16th win of the season stopping 28-of-29 shots in regulation and all five in the shootout. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Hartford was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

At Lowell (2/28): Goaltender Jonathan Bernier stopped 34 shots in regulation and all five shootout snipers as the Manchester Monarchs edged the Lowell Devils, 2-1, in a shootout at the Tsongas Arena on Saturday afternoon. Bernier blanked defenseman Tyler Eckford, center Brad Mills, left wing Ryan Murphy, right wing Matt Halischuk and right wing Jon DiSalvatore in the shootout. Monarchs' right wing Trevor Lewis snuck the puck past Devils' goaltender Jeff Frazee in the shootout. Left wing Vladimir Dravecky, center Justin Azevedo, left wing Scott Parse and center Oscar Moller were denied by Frazee in the shootout. Center Gabe Gauthier scored the Monarchs' lone goal in regulation. Left wing Alexander Vasyunov picked up the tally for the Devils in the third period. Bernier (14-17-3) earned his 14th win of the season stopping 34-of-35 shots in regulation and all five shots in the shootout. Frazee (22-11-5) took his fifth shootout loss of the season with 31 saves in regulation and four saves in the shootout. Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. Lowell was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

At Springfield (3/1): The Manchester Monarchs scored two unanswered goals to come from behind and beat the Springfield Falcons, 2-1, and move into a tie for fourth place in the Atlantic Division at the MassMutual Center on Sunday evening. Right wing David Meckler and center Gabe Gauthier scored for the Monarchs in the second period. Falcons center Geoff Paukovich scored the lone first period tally. Monarchs' goaltender Jonathan Bernier (15-17-3) won his second consecutive game and 15th win with 17 saves on 18 shots. Falcons' netminder Devan Dubnyk (15-33-1) took his 33rd loss of the season with 27 saves. Manchester went 0-for-9 on the power play. Springfield was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

Manchester (29-26-0-6) collected seven out of a possible eight points this week to move into a tie with the Lowell Devils (28-24-2-6) for fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 64 points after 61 games. The Providence Bruins (34-22-2-3) lead the Atlantic Division with 73 points. The Worcester Sharks are in fifth place with 63 points (30-26-1-2). The Hartford Wolf Pack (33-23-2-3, 71 points) ranks second and the Portland Pirates (30-23-3-6) rank third in the Atlantic Division with 69 points.

The Monarchs are 7-2-0-1 in their last 10 games and have won three of their last four games. Manchester is currently on a two-game winning streak.

The Monarchs are in 17th place in the AHL on the power play. The team is 48-for-286 with the man advantage for a 16.8-percent rating.

Manchester has stopped their opponent 253 times on 297 power play opportunities for an 85.2-percent rating this season, good for seventh place.

The Monarchs have a winning record on two days of the week, Wednesdays and Fridays. Manchester is 6-2-0-1 on Wednesdays and 10-6-0-3 on Fridays. The Monarchs are 7-12-0-0 on Saturday's and 3-5-0-1 on Sunday's this season.

When the Monarchs score first, they have gained a point in every game but four. Manchester is 18-4-0-4 in the 26 games where they have scored first.

Manchester is 15-3-0-3 when they have the lead following the first period. They are 21-3-0-2 when leading after two periods.

The Monarchs are undefeated when scoring four or more goals (13-0-0-0) and are 13-4-0-2 when they tally three goals in a game.

After going 2-4-0-1 in the month of October, the Monarchs went 7-4-0-2 in November, 7-6-0-1 in December and 3-9-0-1 in the month of January. Manchester was 9-3-0-1 in February and has a record of 1-0-0-0 in March.

Center Marty Murray's (10-30=40) leads the Monarchs with 30 assists and 40 points.

Reigning AHL Rookie of the Year right wing Teddy Purcell's (16-22=38) eight game scoring streak (7-9=16), the longest scoring streak by a Monarchs player this season, came to an end when he was held off the scoreboard in the 5-2 loss to Providence on Friday, February 20. The longest scoring streak in Monarchs history is center Michael Cammalleri with 25 points (14-11=25) in 14 games from October 29, 2004 - November 27, 2004.

Purcell is the team's leading goal scorer with 16 tallies on the season and he ranks second in points with 38.

Purcell's four-points (2-2=4) on Saturday, February 14 made him the 20th player to tally four points in one game. The franchise record for the most points in a game is five points (0-5=5) by center Jared Aulin on December 21, 2002.

The second-year right wing was recalled to the Kings on February 23. In 21 games with Los Angeles this season, Purcell has eight points (1-7=8) and two penalty minutes.

Center Justin Azevedo (10-17=27) picked up four points (1-3=4) in the Monarchs 7-2 win over Lowell on Saturday, February 21 to become the 21st player in Monarchs history to score four points in a game.

Azevedo has been plagued by injuries this season but when he has been in the lineup, he's averaged a point per game.

The rookie center holds a five-game assist streak (0-6=6) recorded from January 21 - 31, 2009, the longest assist streak for a Monarchs player this season.

Right wing Trevor Lewis (14-21=35) is tied for third in goals and ranks third in overall scoring on the team. His 21 assists are ranked fourth on the Monarchs.

Lewis also leads the Monarchs with three shorthanded goals this season.

Center Gabe Gauthier (8-25=33) moved into fourth place on the roster with two goals this week. His 25 assists rank second on the Monarchs squad.

Gauthier is also ranked fourth on the Monarchs all-time assists list with 90 helpers over three seasons. He is also ranked 10th in goals scored with 45 and is in seventh place with 136 points.

Left wing Matt Moulson (14-18=32) is ranked fifth overall on the Monarchs squad. The left wing recorded his second career hat trick, the Monarchs first of the season, in Manchester's 7-2 win over Lowell on Saturday, February 21. Moulson's first career hat trick came against Albany in the Monarchs 5-1 win on March 30, 2007. Manchester has 17 hat tricks in the record books during the regular season and one in the playoffs since the franchise began in the 2001-02 season

Moulson is tied for fifth all-time with right wing Pavel Rosa in goals scored with 67 tallies over three seasons. He is also ranked seventh in assists with 78 and sixth overall in points with 141.

Right wing Scott Parse (13-17=30) leads the team with a plus/minus rating of plus-9 and ranks sixth in scoring.

Right wing David Meckler (13-11=24) has three points (1-2=3) in his last two games.

Center Oscar Moller was assigned to the Monarchs for a conditioning stint on Sunday, February 15. The rookie has five points (2-3=5) in eight games.

Goaltender Daniel Taylor returned to the Monarchs lineup after spending the first half of the season with the ECHL's Reading Royals. He began the season with the Royals and collected a 3-17-1 record, a 3.96 goals-against-average and a .881 save-percentage in 23 games. The 5-foot-11, 179-pound netminder was born in Plymouth, England, and split the 2007-08 season between Manchester, Los Angeles and Reading. He registered a 13-5-2 record, a 2.40 goals-against-average and a .921 save-percentage in 23 games with the Monarchs and was undefeated in five games with the Royals going 3-0-0 with a 2.63 goals-against-average and a .917 save-percentage last season. Taylor made his NHL debut with the Kings against the Dallas Stars on March 29, 2008. He stopped eight shots in 20 minutes of play and let in two goals in his lone NHL game.

Taylor earned his first win of the season in a Monarchs uniform on Saturday, January 17 by making 26 saves on 28 shots for a 3-2 win against Portland. He is 7-2-1 in 10 games this season.

Taylor's five-game winning-streak came to an end on Friday, February 20 when he let in the season's three fastest goals, 58 seconds apart, in the first period against Providence. The fastest three goals scored in a game in the Monarchs franchise history were scored 57 seconds apart when the team was in Lowell on March 19, 2006.

Netminder Jonathan Bernier is 15-17-3 with a 2.57 goals-against-average and a .906 save-percentage in 37 games with the Monarchs this season.

Bernier ended his franchise tying six-game losing streak on Friday, January 30 with a 3-0 win over Lowell, his second shutout of the season. He stopped all 33 shots from the Devils.

MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS

2-23-09: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) recalled right wing Teddy Purcell from the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).

Thursday, March 5 - Two Monarchs players will be speaking to students at Broken Ground Elementary School in Concord, New Hampshire, on Thursday, March 5 from 1:15 - 2:15 p.m. as part of the Winning With Wellness program.
