Moose Notes

40 IN THE WIN COLUMN: With Friday night's 4-0 shutout victory over Peoria, the Moose registered their 40th victory of the season in their 62nd contest. This is the earliest in franchise history that the Moose have earned 40 wins this early in the season. Last season, the Moose hit the 40-win mark on Mar. 20/08 by defeating San Antonio 4-2 at the MTS Centre. The game was the club's 69th of the season, breaking the team's previous record with a 40th win in Game 70.

SHUTOUT FOR SANFORD: Curtis Sanford stopped all 18 shots faced in Friday night's 4-0 win over Peoria, earning the club's sixth shutout of the season, 70th in franchise history and second in this campaign for Sanford. This is the second time the Moose blanked the Rivermen, allowing the club to only score three goals in three contests. The most shutouts Manitoba has ever posted in a single season is eight in 2005-06, led by that season's league shutout leader Wade Flaherty, who earned six in 49 games played. With 18 games left this regular season, the Moose are on par to break the current record set in 2005-06.

Upcoming Opponents

The Manitoba Moose will host the Providence Bruins for the first time this season on Friday, March 6th and Saturday March 7th at the MTS Centre. The Moose are 1-0-0-1 against the Bruins so far this season and these two games will close out the clubs' four-game regular season series.

Player of the Week Nominee

Mike Keane

For the second time this season, Moose captain Mike Keane has been nominated for AHL Player of the Week. This week, Keane was instrumental in helping the Moose go undefeated at 3-0-0 in order to reach the 40-win plateau the quickest-ever in franchise history. With the wins, the Moose are 41-17-0-5 and continue to lead the entire AHL with 87 points. Keane collected a pair of assists in each of the three Moose victories this week, giving him six points to go along with just one shot, but also ended the week at +5. It is the first time in Keane's Moose career that has has collected more than one point in three consecutive games and actually ties the longest points streak in Keane's entire 21-year pro career. Keane now has 25 points (6-19-25) which is ninth in team scoring. He also ranks fourth on the team with a +14 rating in the plus/minus category.
