March 2, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release

Lake Erie Monsters goaltender Jason Bacashihua (ba-CASH-u-ah) led his team to multiple franchise records over the past week, and today he has been rewarded for it. Bacashihua has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week, it was announced by the American Hockey League today.

In three games last week, Bacashihua was a perfect 3-0, including two straight shutouts and a shootout win. He posted a 0.65 goals against average and a .973 saves percentage, allowing only two goals on 74 shots over the three games. With the victories, the Dearborn Heights, Michigan native has now won six consecutive games, which is a Monsters franchise record and doubles the previous mark of three.

Bacashihua was also in goal for five consecutive team wins, a new franchise record, and while winning his past three starts at home last week, helped the Monsters post five straight wins at Quicken Loans Arena, another franchise record.

On Wednesday, February 25th, Bacashihua made 19 saves in a 6-0 win over the Syracuse Crunch, his first shutout of the season. The six-goal margin of victory was the largest in Monsters history. On Friday, he recorded 31 saves on the way to a 2-0 win over the visiting Toronto Marlies. Bacashihua followed that up on Saturday with 22 saves in a 3-2 shootout win over Grand Rapids. He stalled four of five Griffins shots in the shootout to get the victory.

Bacashihua, in his second season with Lake Erie, currently has a 2.54 goals against average and .913 save percentage, and an 11-16-3 record.

Bacashihua and the Monsters return to action at The Q this weekend, when they will play three games in three days. Tickets for the games begin at just $10 and are available at LakeErieMonsters.com or by calling (216) 420-0000.

The Lake Erie Monsters are part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena organization and also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Majority Owner and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert.
