Last Week's Games

Friday, February 27th - Quad City Flames 2 at Milwaukee Admirals 3

Milwaukee beat Quad City 3-2 on Friday night at The Bradley Center. The loss was the first regulation defeat for the Flames since February 6th. It ended a stretch in which the Flames went 6-0-1-0 in seven games. John Vigilante recorded his first goal as Flame in the loss and assisted on the other Flames tally, a late goal by Aki Seitsonen. The Admirals took a 2-0 lead on first period goals by Patric Hornqvist and Jed Ortmeyer. The first goal was scored when Cal O'Reilly deflected a centering feed from James Sixsmith to Hornqvist who was waiting at the right wing post to slam the puck home. The Admirals added a shorthanded tally when O'Reilly tipped a puck to Jed Ortmeyer in the neutral ice. Ortmeyer skated around Anders Eriksson and muscled his way into the Quad City zone. He then lifted a shot past Leland Irving to open a two-goal lead for the Admirals. The Flames sliced into the Admirals lead with a power-play mark at 4:01 of the second period. John Vigilante scored his first goal as a Flame on the man advantage following a feed from Kyle Greentree. Just 42 seconds later, the Admirals scored to re-open a two-goal edge. Hugh Jessiman powered down right wing and around a Flames defender. He found Geoff Peters on the doorstep. Peters jammed the puck home for his fourth goal of the year. The teams skated scoreless through the remaining 15:17 of the middle frame as Milwaukee carried a 3-1 edge to the dressing room after two periods. Aki Seitsonen netted the only goal of the closing frame when he scored on a goal-mouth scramble with 2:06 remaining. The Flames put together a closing rally but could not net the equalizer in their first regulation loss since early February.

Saturday, February 28th - Houston Aeros 4 at Quad City Flames 3 Shootout

The Houston Aeros came from behind to beat Quad City 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday. With the win, the Aeros open up a nine-point lead over the Flames for the final playoff spot in the West Division. Aki Seitsonen, John Vigilante and Brett Sutter supplied the goals for Quad City in the shootout loss. The Flames haven't lost in regulation in their last six home games, a franchise record for consecutive home games without a regulation loss. Aki Seitsonen scored the only goal of the opening period when he blasted a shot past Houston's Nolan Schaefer from the left wing wall at 1:51 of the frame. The tally stood up as both goaltenders were solid for the remainder of the first period. Schaefer denied seven Flames shots in the first including Kris Chucko on a point-blank chance late in the period. Quad City's Kevin Lalande made ten saves in the period including a spectacular stop on Matt Beaudoin during a mid-period rally by the Aeros. The Flames extended their lead to 2-0 when John Vigilante netted his second goal in as many nights at 3:26 of the middle period. Vigilante accepted a feed from behind the net by Cam Cunning and slammed his chance home to open up the two-goal cushion. Marco Rosa put Houston on the board three minutes later when he scored on a power play. The man advantage marker sliced the Flames lead to 2-1 and held up as the final goal of the second frame. The Aeros tied the game when Jesse Schultz scored on the power play just 82 seconds into the third period. Brett Sutter scored to re-claim the lead for Quad City at 4:33 of the closing period. Another power-play tally by Marco Rosa tied the game at three with just 3:18 left in regulation. The teams skated scoreless through the overtime and into the shootout. In the extra session, Nolan Schaeffer stopped four of the five shooters he faced while Marco Rosa and Krys Kolanos scored for the Aeros to secure the win.

Sunday, March 1st - Quad City Flames 1 at Chicago Wolves 2

The Chicago Wolves earned a 2-1 victory over Quad City on Sunday afternoon at Allstate Arena. The loss extends the Flames' winless skid to four games (0-2-1-1). Brett Sutter provided the Flames offense as he netted a first period shorthanded goal. With the loss, the Flames fall to 23-25-6-6 on the season. Brett Sutter scored for the second consecutive game when he converted on a shorthanded breakaway at 6:05 of the first period. Sutter capitalized on a Chicago turnover and beat netminder Ondrej Pavelec by roofing a shot for his eight goal of the season. The tally was the only goal scored in the opening 20 minutes as the Flames took a 1-0 lead to the dressing room for the first intermission. The Wolves scored two unanswered goals in the second period to move in front 2-1 after 40 minutes. Anderson netted the Wolves first goal when he and Joey Crabb broke into the Flames zone on a 2-on-0 breakaway while Chicago was shorthanded. Anderson beat Flames netminder Leland Irving to tie the game at one at 4:02 of the period. Three and a half minutes later Jordan LaVallee punched a backhander into the Quad City net to put the Wolves in front for the first time. It was LaVallee's 16th goal of the season and gave the Wolves a 2-1 lead after two periods. The teams skated scoreless through the closing frame as Chicago held onto their one goal lead despite being outshot 13-12 in the third period and 40-32 for the game.
