Admirals Begin Stretch Drive

OVERALL...The Admirals enter this week's action with a 38-16-3-3 record and 82 points, which puts them in first place in the West Division. The Ads lead second place Rockford and Chicago by 13 points, are up 15 on Houston, and outpace Iowa fifth place Iowa by 19 points. The Admirals have alternated wins and loses in each of their last five games and are 5-3-1-1 in their past ten contests. Milwaukee has a light week on the schedule front with just three games. They will host Iowa at the Bradley Center on Thursday and Friday at 7:00 pm before traveling to Quad City on Sunday for a 5:05 pm contest.

VS. IOWA...The Admirals play host to the Iowa Chops on both Thursday and Friday night this week, the eighth and ninth match-up this season. So far this year the Ads have posted a 5-2 mark against their West Division foes, including a 2-1 loss to the Chops last Saturday night. The two teams split their first two games this season with the Ads winning 3-0 on Nov. 21st and the Chops taking an 8-6 decision on Nov. 22nd. Milwaukee then won four straight, including a 6-2 win on Dec.13th, a 4-1 victory December 21st, a 2-1 OT win on December 30th and another 2-1 win on January 17th. The Chops, who are in their first year in the AHL, are affiliated with the Anaheim Ducks.

VS. QUAD CITY...The Admirals and Flames will do battle this evening for the ninth time this season and the fourth at the I Wireless Center. So far this year the Admirals have notched a 5-1-2 record against Quad City, including a 3-2 win last Friday in Milwaukee. The Ads won the first two contests between the two teams, taking a 5-2 victory on December 10th in Quad City and then topping the Flames 4-2 on December 26th at the Bradley Center, before Quad City struck a 2-1 OT win on January 2nd at the I Wireless Center and then won 5-2 on January 18th in Milwaukee. The Ads won the next two games, a 4-0 shutout on January 20th at the BC and a 3-1 win on January 31st in Moline, before the Flames captured another 2-1 OT win on February 15th in Milwaukee.

LAST WEEK...The Admirals posted a 2-2 record in three games thus far this week. The team started the week with a 4-2 loss to Manitoba on Tuesday night at the Bradley Center. The Ads scored just 23 seconds into the game and held a 2-1 advantage after the first period, but surrendered three unanswered goals in the loss. Patric Hornqvist and Nick Spaling lit the lamp for the Admirals. Then Friday night the Admirals posted a 3-2 win over Quad City at the BC. Hornqvist and Jed Ortmeyer staked the Ads to a 2-0 lead and the team never looked back. Drew MacIntyre picked up his league-leading 27th win of the season. Last night the Ads dropped a 2-1 decision to the Iowa Chops in Des Moines. Hornqvist scored the Ads lone goal, his third straight game with a marker, while Mark Dekanich suffered the loss in spite of stopping 28 of 30 shots. On Sunday the Ads fell by behind 2-0 in the first period to Houston, but scored three unanswered goals to come away with a 3-2 win. Hornqvist, Hugh Jessiman, and Nick Spaling lit the lamp for Milwaukee, who held the Aeros to just 12 shots on goal in the game.

MR. 200 GOES UP...Friday was quite a day for Admirals center Cal O'Reilly. The Toronto native posted a pair of assists in the team's win over Quad City, the first of which was the 200th point in his professional career. He also received his first NHL call-up and then posted an assist in Nashville's 8-0 rout of the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night. In two and a half seasons with Milwaukee, O'Reilly has recorded 45 goals and 156 assists for 201 points in 217 career AHL games. He is now just ten assists away from the Admirals career AHL assist record, currently held by Darren Haydar.

SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST...The Admirals win over Houston on Sunday afternoon pushed their record to a perfect 6-0 when playing for the third time in three nights. Sunday's game was especially taxing from a travel standpoint, as the Ads played at home on Friday and Sunday and had a six hour bus ride each way for a road game in Iowa on Saturday night. So far this season the Admirals have notched an 11-5-1-1 mark while playing three games in three nights and have two more three-in-threes to go.

SWEDISH SENSATION...While the Admirals offense has been mired in a slump as of late, scoring just 16 goals in their last nine games, rookie forward Patric Hornqvist has been the exception to the rule. The Sollentuna, Sweden has picked up a goal in each of the team's last four games, the second longest goal streak for an Admiral this season. So far this year, Hornqvist has posted 28 points (13-g-15a) in 40 games for the Ads, and notched two goals and five assists in 20 games with Nashville.

TRANSACTIONS...The Admirals have signed goaltender Ryan Nie and center Oren Eizenman to PTOs. Nie has split time this season between three teams in the ECHL: Bakersfield, Elmira, and most recently, Cincinnati. In 17 games with the Cyclones, he has posted a 12-3-0 record with a 2.76 goals against average and a .891 save percentage. Oizenman had two assists in five games with San Antonio and a pair of penalty minutes in six contests with Manitoba this season.

THAT SCORE AGAIN...The Admirals loss Saturday night to Iowa marked the 14th time this season that the final score of an Ads game has been 2-1, which breaks a team record previously set during the 1999-2000 season. Milwaukee has posted an impressive 9-2-3 record in those games with their only regulation defeats coming last night to the Chops and on February 7th against Chicago. On home ice the Ads have posted a 4-0-1 record in 2-1 games, while on the road they are 5-2-2.

GIVING BACK...Sunday's game was the Admirals annual charity game where $2 from each ticket sold was donated to the MACC Fund. Thus, with a crowd of 10,316 at the game, the Ads made a check out to the MACC Fund for $20,632. This is the fourth season that the team has held such a promotion and has given away over $94,000 to Milwaukee area charities in that time.
