March 2, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club took six points out of a possible eight last week to maintain a four point lead over second place Bridgeport in the East Division race. The BEARS have 18 regular season games remaining.

HERSHEY is on the road this weekend with games in Toronto and Lake Erie. The Chocolate and White return home next Wednesday vs. Springfield. Tickets for all BEARS home games are on sale now at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.

A Year to Remember: Left wing Alexandre Giroux scored his 42nd and 43rd goals of the season on Sunday in HERSHEY'S win over the Providence Bruins. The 43 goals represents a new career high for the Quebec City native. Giroux scored 42 goals in 67 games for the BEARS in 2006-07. With 18 games remaining, Giroux is seven goals short of becoming just the fifth player in HERSHEY history to score 50 goals in a single season. Tim Tookey was the last BEARS skater to score 50 or more goals in a single season, notching 51 back in the 1986-87 campaign. Tony Cassolato holds the franchise's all-time record for most goals in a season with 53.

Mink heating up: Graham Mink picked up nine points this past week, and is HERSHEY'S nominee for Reebok AHL Player of the Week honors for the week ending March 1. The Stowe, VT native has scored goals in four straight games, and five of his last six, compiling a total of 27 goals on the season heading into action this weekend.

Beagle recalled, assigned: Center Jay Beagle was recalled Sunday by the Washington Capitals, and skated against the Florida Panthers at Verizon Center. Beagle saw the ice for 9:12 of the game, then was reassigned back to HERSHEY following the contest.

Three more against the North: The BEARS have just three more games this season against North Division competition, with two such contests being played this weekend. In addition to Saturday's game in Toronto and Sunday's game at Lake Erie, the Marlies will be at GIANT Center on March 25.

Washington update: The Capitals host the Carolina Hurricanes Tuesday night before the Toronto Maple Leafs visit Verizon Center on Thursday. The NHL trade deadline is this Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
