LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

Vs. Toronto (1/27): Five first period goals gave the Toronto Marlies the momentum to surpass the Manchester Monarchs, 6-4, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Center Jeremy Williams, left wing Colin Murphy (2), center John Pohl and center Roman Kukumberg scored for the Marlies within the first 13 minutes of the game. The Monarchs tried to make a comeback but fell short. Manchester goals came from defenseman Brad Fast, forward Brendan Bernakevitch, defenseman Mark Ardelan and left wing Petr Kanko. Marlies right wing Ben Ondrus scored an empty net goal. Monarchs goaltender Barry Brust took his fourth loss of the season stopping 11-of-16 shots in the first period of play. Manchester replaced Brust with Adam Hauser who shutout the Marlies in the remaining two periods stopping all 15 shots he faced. Marlies goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin earned the win with 19 saves. Manchester went 2-for-4 on the power play. Toronto was 3-for-8 with the man advantage.

At Albany (1/28): The Manchester Monarchs scored three power play goals to beat the Albany River Rats for the fifth time this season on Saturday night at the Pepsi Arena. Defenseman Marty Wilford, left wing Petr Kanko, center Yanick Lehoux and center Greg Hogeboom scored for Manchester. Kanko's goal was the only even strength tally of the game by both teams. River Rats center Nicklas Bergfors and left wing Ahren Nittel scored on Monarchs goaltender Adam Hauser. Hauser earned his 15th victory of the season and first since December 23, 2005. Hauser collected 37 saves in the win. River Rats goaltender Gregg Naumenko took his fourth loss of the season, first as a member of the River Rats, stopping 24 shots. Manchester went 3-for-7 on the power play. Albany was 2-for-6 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS

1/26/06: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) reassigned defenseman Eric Werner to the Reading Royals (ECHL).
1/25/06: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) released defenseman Chris Barr from his professional tryout agreement.
1/25/06: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) returned defenseman Richard Petiot and center Matt Ryan on loan to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).

MONARCHS EVENTS & PROMOTIONS

Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 2006 CCM AHL All-Star Skills Competition - The Skills Competition kicks off the two-day Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic and will be televised on Fox Sports New England starting at 8 p.m. (ET). Fans may also view the competition, free of charge, on the B2 Networks via the AHL Web site at www.theahl.com. Monarchs defenseman Denis Grebeshkov (PlanetUSA) and left wing Jeff Tambellini (Canada) will be participating in the event.

Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 2006 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic Game - The All-Star game begins at 8 p.m. (ET) and will be televised on Fox Sports New England (starting at 11 p.m.) and live online at the B2 Networks through www.theahl.com. Of the 364 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 93 percent have competed in the National Hockey League, including Patrice Bergeron, Pavol Demitra, Rick DiPietro, Patrik Elias, Miikka Kiprusoff, Kari Lehtonen, Ryan Miller, Martin St. Louis, Jason Spezza, Eric Staal and Steve Sullivan.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (27-14-1-4, 59 points) are in second place in the Atlantic Division. The Portland Pirates (28-12-4-3, 63 points) are four points ahead of the Monarchs to lead the Atlantic Division.

The club has sent 17 out of their 46 games into overtime and/or a shootout this season, winning 12 out of those 17 games.

Manchester is 7-4 in shootouts and 5-1 in overtime games this season.

The Monarchs are undefeated at home on Sundays (4-0-0-0).

At home, the Monarchs are undefeated in regulation when they are leading after the second period (6-0-0-0) and in one-goal games (9-0-1-2).

Manchester is undefeated (9-0-0-0) when they score five or more goals.

With special teams, the Monarchs power play is ranked 24th in the League, capitalizing 39 times on 275 opportunities with the man advantage. Ranked 16th in penalty killing, Manchester has given up 51 goals on 295 opportunities.

Manchester has the lowest number of penalty minutes in the AHL with 759 penalty minutes.

The Monarchs lead the AHL in attendance after 21 home games, averaging 8,555 fans per game.

Right wing Brad Smyth (21-28=49) leads the team with 28 assists and 49 points.

At 6-foot, 200-pounds and a native of Ottawa, Ontario, Smyth's 49 points are tied for ninth among the AHL's top scorers.

Smyth is ranked fourth in the AHL with a plus/minus of plus-16.

Left wing Jeff Tambellini is second in team scoring for the Monarchs with 45 points (21-24=45).

Tambellini and Smyth are tied for the team's lead in goal scoring with 21 goals each.

A former University of Michigan Wolverine, Tambellini is ranked third in the AHL among rookie scorers (45 points), fourth among rookie goal scorers (21) and is ranked sixth among rookies in assists (24).

Tambellini is ranked second among AHL rookies and tied for sixth in the AHL with his plus/minus of plus-15.

Right wing Petr Kanko is tied for second place in the AHL with three shorthanded goals on the season.

Goaltender Adam Hauser played in his first game at the Verizon Wireless Arena since January 7 versus the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday night when he replaced Barry Brust for the second and third periods in the 6-4 loss to the Toronto Marlies. Hauser held the Marlies scoreless during those two periods.

Hauser is tied for seventh place among AHL goaltenders with 15 wins.

The 6-foot-2, 194-pound native of Bovey, Minnesota, leads the league with a shootout record of 5-2.

Brust has been between the pipes for nine of the last 15 Monarchs games going 6-3-0 in those nine games. The 6-foot-2, 216-pound native of Swan River, Manitoba, has compiled a record of 10-4-1, a goals-against-average of 2.61 and a save-percentage of 0.917 in 15 games this season.
