NORFOLK, VA - Norfolk played four games last week, facing division rival Hershey three times and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton once. The Ads won two of the three against Hershey, and took the Penguins to a shootout to pick up five of a possible eight points and remain tied for third place with Bridgeport. Carl Corazzini and Mark Cullen combined for three first period tallies as the Admirals downed the Bears 5-1 on January 25th. Hershey erased an early 4-1 Norfolk lead as the visitors netted six unanswered goals to win 7-4 on January 27th. The next night, the Admirals and Pens skated to a 3-3 tie at the end of regulation before Wilkes-Barre went on to win in a shootout. Cullen scored twice to lead Norfolk to a 4-3 win at Hershey on Sunday to close out the week.
After the All-Star Break, the Admirals host Binghamton for a pair this weekend.
STANDINGS At 23-17-2-3 (51 pts), Norfolk is currently tied for third in the East with Bridgeport (23-21-3-2, 51 pts). The division is led by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (34-6-3-2, 73 pts), followed by Hershey in second (28-12-2-7, 65 pts). Philadelphia (18-24-1-4, 41 pts) is in fifth and Binghamton (17-24-2-2, 38 pts) sits sixth.

TEAM NOTEBOOK - Mark Cullen tied a franchise mark with a 10-game point streak from 1/7 to 1/27 (Mike Peluso 10/30/02 to 11/20/02). During that stretch, Cullen collected nine goals and 13 assists for 22 points. - The Admirals have won eight of their last 11 games, having scored four or more goals and allowing three or fewer tallies in each of their victories. They have netted 50 goals (4.5 avg.) while allowing 38 goals (3.5 avg.) during the 11-game span. - On Friday, January 27th, the Admirals' attendance was 7,064, their largest home crowd since joining the AHL in 2000-01. - The Ads were outshot by Hershey in each of their three meetings last week. - With Scott Reid and Mike McKenna serving as Norfolk's goaltenders since January 22nd, it marks the first time since the 2000-01 season that the Admirals have not had Craig Anderson, Michael Leighton, Adam Munro or Steve Passmore as at least one of the team's active netminders. The last tandem that did not include one of those four was Michel Larocque and Jeff Maund in â00-01. - Dustin Byfuglien has seven points (2g, 5a) in the last 10 games (since January 15th). - Shawn Thornton has collected 1+3=4 points in the past four matches (since January 25th). - Matt Keith has goals (3g) in three consecutive games. - James Wisniewski has assists (6a) in five straight contests.
