Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced that the club has recalled right wing Steve Bernier from the Cleveland Barons.
Bernier has 42 points (19-23-42) and 33 penalty minutes in 44 games this season. He leads the Barons in scoring, goals (19), power play goals (10) and game-winning goals (6) and ranks 5th among AHL rookie scoring leaders. Bernier enters the All-Star Break with a four game point streak (1-4-5) intact.
The six-foot-two, 230-pound right wing set a new Cleveland Barons franchise record for consecutive point streak to begin a season and rookie point streak to begin a career by opening his season with a seven-game point streak. His six game-winning goals also set a new single season franchise record.
Bernier made his NHL debut earlier in the season, appearing in five games and recording his first NHL goal.
The San Jose Sharks drafted the native of Quebec City, Quebec in the first round (16th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
In related news, left wing Glenn Olson was reassigned to the Fresno Falcons (ECHL) and defenseman Matt Deschamps was released from his professional tryout. Olson has appeared in 18 games for the Barons, going scoreless with 32 penalty minutes. Deschamps went scoreless with four penalty minutes in two games with the Barons.
The Barons will return to National City Rink located in The Q on Friday, February 3 against the Syracuse Crunch at 7:05pm. Tickets for the game are on sale now at The Q Box Office and through all ticketmaster locations.
