LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

Vs. Portland (12/9): Veteran right wing Brad Smyth led the Manchester Monarchs back into first place as they beat the Portland Pirates 3-1 at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Smyth had a goal and an assist. Center Connor James and right wing Konstantin Pushkarev collected tallies for the Monarchs. Center Igor Pohanka scored the lone Pirates goal. Monarchs' goaltender Adam Hauser earned his 11th win of the season stopping 34 shots. Pirates' goaltender Nathan Marsters took the loss with 26 saves. Manchester went 1-for-6 on the power play. Portland was 1-for-7 with the man advantage.

At Springfield (12/10): Center Jason Jaspers and left wing Ryan Craig each collected four points as the Springfield Falcons edged the Manchester Monarchs 5-4 at the MassMutual Center on Saturday night. The Monarchs collected goals from right wing Petr Kanko and left wings Noah Clarke, Jeff Giuliano and Jeff Tambellini. Defenseman Doug O'Brien added a goal to the Falcons tallies to go along with two from both Jaspers and Craig. Monarchs' goaltender Adam Hauser took the loss with 30 saves. Falcons' goaltender Gerald Coleman earned his second consecutive victory against the Monarchs stopping 25 shots. Manchester went 1-for-5 on the power play. Springfield was 2-for-8 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS

12/10/05: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) reassigned left wing Dany Roussin from the Manchester Monarchs (AHL) to the Reading Royals (ECHL).
12/09/05: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) returned left wing Jeff Tambellini on loan to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).
12/08/05: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) returned left wing Jeff Giuliano on loan to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).

MONARCHS EVENTS & PROMOTIONS

Teddy Bear Toss - The Monarchs Care Foundation will host its fifth annual Teddy bear Toss at the Monarchs game on Friday, December 16 versus the Albany River Rats. Fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear or purchase a bear at the game from the Monarchs Care Foundation. Teddy bears will be tossed on the ice during the second intermission and then donated to local charities.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Monarchs (16-5-1-3, 36 points) are tied for first place with the Portland Pirates (17-7-2-0, 36 points) in the Atlantic Division.

The club has sent 15 out of their 25 games into overtime and/or a shootout this season, winning 11 out of those 15 games.

Manchester has only won five games in regulation.

At home, the Monarchs are undefeated in regulation when they are out-shot by the opponent (8-0-0-0), leading after the first period (6-0-0-0), trailing after the second period (4-0-0-1), in one-goal games (7-0-1-1) and when they face an Atlantic Division opponent (7-0-1-1).

On the road, the Monarchs are undefeated when they out-shoot the opponent (3-0-0-0).

The Monarchs are undefeated when they allow a shorthanded goal (4-0-0-0).

Manchester is undefeated (7-0-0-0) when they score five or more goals.

With special teams, the Monarchs' power play is ranked 26th in the League, capitalizing 20 times on 160 opportunities with the man advantage. Ranked 18th in penalty killing, Manchester has given up 32 goals on 178 opportunities.

The Monarchs are ranked first in the AHL in attendance after 12 home games, averaging 8,188 fans per game. Over the last four years, the Monarchs have been in the top three in attendance, leading the AHL twice. During the 2003-04 season, Manchester led all of North American minor league pro hockey with an average of 9,141 fans per game.

Left wing Jeff Tambellini (15-11=26) leads the team with 15 goals.

A former University of Michigan Wolverine, Tambellini is ranked fourth in the AHL among rookie scorers (26 points), second among rookie goal scorers (15 goals) and eighth among AHL goal scorers (15 goals).

Right wing Brad Smyth (9-17=26) and Tambellini share the team lead with 26 points on the season.

Smyth leads the team with 17 assists.

At 6-foot, 200-pounds, Smyth recorded his 400th professional goal in his 800th professional game on December 9 in the Monarchs 3-1 win over the Pirates. Smyth has 400 goals, 416 assists, 816 points and 957 penalty minutes in 801 professional games over 13 seasons in the ECHL, IHL, AHL, NHL and FNL.

Smyth is ranked third in the AHL with a plus/minus of plus-15.

Defenseman Marty Wilford is ranked sixth in the AHL and fourth among defenseman with a plus/minus of plus-12.

Tambellini and defenseman Richard Petiot are tied for seventh in the AHL and tied for third among AHL rookies with a plus/minus of plus-11.

Petiot's plus-11 is also ranked fifth among AHL defensemen.

Defenseman Denis Grebeshkov is ranked seventh among AHL defenseman with 15 assists.

Goaltender Adam Hauser is first on the Monarchs all-time goaltenders list with 92 games played, 50 wins, 5463:40 minutes played, 12 shutouts and a goals-against-average of 2.12.

At 6-foot-2, 194-pounds and a native of Bovey, Minnesota, Hauser collected his 50th AHL win, all with the Monarchs, in Manchester's 3-1 victory over Portland on December 9.

Hauser is ranked third among AHL goaltenders with 11 wins on the season.
