BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Senators allowed a franchise record five power-play goals as the Rochester Americans won for the first time in regulation at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena since the AHL returned to Binghamton in 2002.

The Senators had a 2-1 lead early in the second period when winger Jeff Heerema scored his second goal in as many nights. Denis Hamel and Filip Novak earned assists on both Heerema's goal and a Steve Martins power-play goal in the first period.

But Rochester rallied and scored the game's final five goals. Defenseman Nathan Paetsch led the way with one goal and two assists. Also scoring for Rochester were forwards Stefan Meyer, Chris Thorburn, Greg Jacina, Sean McMorrow and Jiri Novotny. Novotny now has points in five straight games.

None of the game's eight goals were scored with the squads at even strength. Rochester's league-leading power play converted on five of 14 chances while Binghamton was successful in two of nine opportunities. The only other goal was an unassisted short-handed tally from the stick of Jacina.

Rochester's 22 shots in the second period tied a franchise record for the most allowed by the Senators in franchise history.

Kelly Guard started in net for the Senators and stopped 37 of 43 shots. Michael Leighton stopped 30 of 32 shots in the win.

The B-Sens return to action next weekend as the Norfolk Admirals visit on Friday and the Providence Bruins are in town on Saturday. Call (607) 722-SENS for ticket information.
