Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria, IL (December 12, 2005) - St. Louis Blues Senior Vice-president and General Manager Larry Pleau today announced that goaltender Jason Bacashihua (buh-CASH-oo-uh) was recalled from the team's top minor league affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, the Blues announced that defenseman Matt Walker was added to the team's injured reserve list.
Bacashihua, 23, has posted a 2.63 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage in 15 games with the Rivermen this season while owning a 9-4-0 record. He is also tied for third in the AHL with two shutouts. A native of Garden City, Michigan, Bacashihua earned the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week award for the period ending October 30. During that week, he played in three games and posted a 3-0-0 record, a 0.33 goals-against average, and a .985 save percentage. Originally taken by the Dallas Stars with the 26th overall pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, the 5-11, 175-pound goalie was acquired by the Blues on June 25, 2004, in exchange for the rights to defenseman Shawn Belle.
Walker, 25, who has appeared in 17 games as a Blue this season, has a separation of his right shoulder. The injury occurred during St. Louis' game at Tampa Bay on Thursday, December 8. Walker was examined at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital in St. Louis by Blues team physician Dr. Rick Wright.
The Rivermen are a proud new member of the AHL. Founded in 1936, the AHL now serves as the primary development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams and is celebrating its 70th anniversary season in 2005-06.
