Amerks' long stretch of games continues this week

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans' seven-game in 10-day stretch continues this week with four games in just five nights. The Amerks' schedule includes two road games at Cleveland and home contests against Grand Rapids and Binghamton.

Rochester (15-11-0-0, 30 points) is currently in third place in the North Division. The Amerks have won two straight games, which included a 6-2 win over Binghamton Saturday and a 3-1 victory at Toronto on Sunday.

Last night, goalie Ryan Miller made his second start in three days and stopped 19 shots in the road win. The game was Miller's second with the Amerks since breaking his thumb on November 2nd. He played Friday night in Rochester's 5-2 loss to Houston.

Before suffering an injury, he was 6-4-0 with a 2.77 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage with the Buffalo Sabres. In his two-game stint in Rochester, he was 1-1-0 with a 2.50 goals-against average. Miller was recalled by the Sabres today.

The Amerks end their current three-game road trip when they return to the ice on Wednesday, December 14th for a 7:05 p.m. game at Cleveland. The Barons (11-16-1-1, 24 points) enter the week tied for fifth place in the North Division. The game will be broadcast on WHTK 1280-AM and webcast on whtk.com. The contest is also available to on-line viewers on the B2 Networks for a $6.00 fee.

The Amerks return home on Friday, December 16th to battle the Grand Rapids Griffins. The Griffins (18-7-0-2, 38 points) are one point out of first place in the North Division and have scored a league best 106 goals. The game is the first of six meetings between the two North Division rivals. Rochester trails the all-time series with a mark of 5-6-1. The 7:35 p.m. game at The Blue Cross Arena will be televised tape delayed on Time Warner Cable Channel 98 on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The game will also be broadcast on WHTK 1280-AM and webcast on whtk.com. The first 5,000 fans that night will take home a card of Norm "Red" Armstrong, courtesy of Chase-Pitkin. One of the most popular players ever to wear the Amerks crest, Armstrong was a fixture of Rochester hockey for parts of 10 seasons. He was inducted into the Amerks Hall of Fame in 1986.

On Saturday, December 17th, the Amerks travel to Cleveland for the second time in four days to battle the Barons at Quicken Loans Arena at 1:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WHTK 1280-AM and webcast on whtk.com. The contest is also available to on-line viewers on the B2 Networks for a $6.00 fee.

Rochester hosts the Binghamton Senators on Sunday, December 18th. The defending East Division champion Senators and former Amerk Denis Hamel play the Amerks at 6:05 p.m. The Amerks defeated the Senators 6-2 Saturday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. Binghamton (7-15-2-1, 17 points) has the lowest point total in the AHL. The first 10,000 fans will receive a 1983 Calder Cup Champions team photo, courtesy of Bonn, Shortsleeve & Ray, Conolly Printing and 95.1 The Fox. Kids can also meet Santa Claus at the game.

TEAM NOTES:
- The Rochester Americans (15-11-0-0) won two of three games last week, which included wins over Binghamton and Toronto.
- Goalie Ryan Miller was 1-1-0 with a 2.50 goals-against average during his conditioning stint with the Amerks. Miller was recalled by the Buffalo Sabres today.
- Nathan Paetsch leads all AHL defensemen with 24 points (3+21) in 26 games.
- Rookie forward Stefan Meyer is on a career-high three-game point streak (2+1).
- Rochester has the best power-play unit in the league, converting 25 percent of its chances (45 of 177).
- On Saturday, Sean McMorrow scored the first power-play goal of his career in a 6-2 win at Binghamton.
- On Saturday, Scott Sheppard recorded a season-high two points at Binghamton.
- On Sunday, Sheppard netted his first of the season as part of a three-goal Rochester third period to defeat Toronto 3-1.
