THIS WEEK'S GAME PREVIEWS

--FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2005 VS. PORTLAND PIRATES--

The Springfield Falcons and Portland Pirates get together for the fourth time this season and third time in Springfield. The Falcons and Pirates last met on Sunday, November 27 with Portland beating Springfield 5-4. The Falcons rallied from a 4-2 deficit to tie the score late in the third period, only to see the Pirates regain the lead late in regulation. Curtis Glencross scored the game-winner in that contest with 3:15 remaining in regulation. Dustin Penner leads Portland in scoring this season with 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points in 16 games played. Rookie Ryan Shannon is second on the team in scoring with eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points in 17 games played. Goaltender Nathan Marsters has started the most games in goal for Portland posting a 9-4-0 record, 2.55 goals against average and .920 save percentage in 15 games. The Falcons defeated the Pirates opening night, 4-2, but Portland came back and beat Springfield on November 11 in Portland.

LAST WEEK'S GAME RECAPS

---Game 1 - Springfield at Lowell, December 7 - W 3-0---

The Springfield Falcons traveled to Lowell and for the second consecutive game at the Paul Tsongas Arena, the Falcons came home with a win. The Falcons shutout the Lock Monsters 3-0 receiving goals from Anders Eriksson, Zbynek Hrdel and Ryan Craig. Goaltender Gerald Coleman earned his second shutout of the season making 33 saves.

---Game 2 - Springfield vs. Hartford, December 9 - SOL 4-3---

The Falcons rallied from a 2-0 deficit to earn a point in the standings losing in the shootout. Jim Campbell, Andre Deveaux and Ryan Vesce also scored for the Falcons, while Hartford's Nigel Dawes scored twice in the shootout. Falcons goaltender Gerald Coleman made 35 saves, while Hartford's Ty Conklin made 34 saves.

---Game 3 - Springfield vs. Manchester, December 10 - W 5-4 ---

In probably the most exciting home game of the season, the Falcons rallied from a 4-3 deficit late in the third period when Jason Jaspers tied the score at 4-4 and Ryan Craig score the game-winner with 1:04 remaining in regulation. Both Jaspers and Craig each collected four points in the game. Gerald Coleman collected his 11th win of the season, while Anders Eriksson and Norm Milley each collected a pair of assists.

---Game 4 - Springfield at Providence, December 11 - L 6-2 ---

The Falcons played their fourth game in five days and lost to the Bruins for the second time this season, 6-2, at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Norm Milley scored on a penalty shot, while Darren Reid also converted shorthanded. Providence's Nathan Robinson recorded a natural hat trick for the Bruins.

PLAYER / TEAM NOTES:

The Springfield Falcons picked up points in three of four games last week posting a record of 2-1-0-1.

Captain Ryan Craig collected three goals and two assists for five points in four games last week. Craig scored the game-wining goal Saturday night in a 5-4 win over the first-place Manchester Monarchs. Craig was the game's first star Saturday night scoring two goals and adding two assists.

Jason Jaspers also recorded a four-point effort (two goals and two assists) Saturday night against Manchester. Jaspers scored the game-tying goal and was the game's second star.

Veteran defenseman Anders Eriksson collected one goal and three assists in four games last week. Eriksson scored the game-winner on Wednesday, December 7 at Lowell, while assisting on the game-winner on Saturday, December 10 against Manchester.

Veteran forward Norm Milley scored on the Falcons' first penalty shot of the season on Sunday, December 11 in Providence. Milley slid a shot past Providence goaltender Tim Thomas.

INJURY REPORT

Falcons forward Steve McLaren missed games due to injury. Darren Reid missed one game this past week due to injury.

FRIENDLY'S FAMILY FUN NIGHTS RETURN - The Springfield Falcons are pleased to announce Family Fun Nights at Friendly's. Falcons' players and Screech will be meeting with fans at area Friendly's restaurants. SPRINGFIELD SLIDERS HOCKEY TEAM HITS THE ICE! - Starting Tuesday, October 18th, Assistant Coach Phil Russell and players will be attending the Springfield Sliders Sled Hockey Practice at Amelia Park in Westfield from 6-7 p.m. every Tuesday. The Sliders Hockey Team is a program through Shriners Hospital that allows children with orthopedic issues the opportunity to experience the game of hockey.

SOUPY'S KITCHEN CUPBOARD - #10 Jim Campbell, whose nickname is "Soupy," is proud to announce a unique food collection program for the 2005-06 season. The program which is called "Soupy's Kitchen Cupboard" encourages fans to bring a canned good or non-perishable food item to any Falcons home game. Those who donate will receive a raffle ticket to win autographed items from Campbell and the rest of the Falcons. One lucky grand prize winner will receive lunch with Campbell in March. Campbell will donate all food to local area food banks.

HOLIDAY TOY COLLECTION - Kraft is once again sponsoring the Falcons Toy Collection to be collected at the Community Relations table behind Section 31 at the following Falcons games:

ON THE FARM - JOHNSTOWN CHIEFS

The Johnstown Chiefs went 1-3-0 last week, including a 4-0 shutout over Dayton on Saturday. Goaltender Jonathan Boutin made 31 saves in earning the shutout. Justin Kelly scored his 10th goal of the season on Saturday and now has 23 points on the season.
