Binghamton Senators News Release

LAST WEEK: The Senators were winless in two games and currently occupy sixth place in the East Division with a 7-15-2-1 record and 17 points.

FRIDAY, DEC. 9TH vs. HERSHEY (4-6 L): Hershey winger TOMAS FLEISCHMANN had three points (1 goal, 2 assists) as the Bears beat the Senators 6-4 on Friday night. Binghamton winger JEFF HEEREMA had three points (1 goals, 2 assists) in the losing effort for Binghamton. Hershey took a 3-1 lead when rookie ERIC FEHR scored his thirteenth goal of the season at 16:48 of the first period. The Sens pulled to within one on three occasions with goals from GRANT POTULNY, JEFF HEEREMA and DENIS HAMEL. But Hershey responded to each Binghamton rally and put the Sens away with an empty-net goal with a little more than one minute remaining in regulation. KELLY GUARD was relieved after 20 minutes after stopping six of nine Hershey shots. BILLY THOMPSON saw his first action in net for the Sens since suffering a groin injury during practice on Nov. 18 and stopped 15 of 17 shots while taking the loss. KIRK DAUBENSPECK made 29 saves on 33 shots for Hershey. Binghamton converted on two of nine power plays while the Bears scored twice on eight chances.

SATURDAY, DEC. 10TH vs. ROCHESTER (2-6 L): Binghamton allowed six goals for a second consecutive night as the Rochester Americans skated off with a 6-2 victory on Saturday. The Senators held a 2-1 lead after JEFF HEEREMA scored his second power-play goal in as many nights only 26 seconds into the middle period, but Rochester went on to score the next five goals. All eight of the game's goals were scored by special teams as Binghamton scored on two of nine power plays for the second straight night and Rochester's league-leading power-play unit was successful on five of 14 chances. Rochester also scored shorthanded. Binghamton's other goal was scored by STEVE MARTINS. KELLY GUARD made 37 saves on 43 shots for Binghamton while MICHAEL LEIGHTON earned the win by blocking 30 of 32 shots.

THIS WEEK: The Sens will once again be in action at the Arena on Friday and Saturday night. The Norfolk Admirals will make their first appearance of the season on Friday while the Providence Bruins will make their only visit on Saturday.

FRIDAY, DEC. 16TH vs. NORFOLK (7:05 p.m.): Arena Club Pub Grand Opening - Come and see the newly remodeled Arena Club and enjoy food and drink specials. Norfolk will visit the Arena for the first of five times this season on Friday evening. The Sens are 7-11-0-2-1 all time against Norfolk including a 4-5 loss to the Admirals on Nov. 30. Friday's game is the first of a four-game road trip for the Admirals that will conclude in Binghamton only five days later. Forward ANDY HILBERT had a natural hat trick in the last meeting between the teams. Norfolk's power play has scored on only 12.7 percent of its opportunities this season (24 of 189).

SATURDAY, DEC. 17TH vs. PROVIDENCE (7:05 p.m.): Arena Club Pub Grand Opening - Come and see the newly remodeled Arena Club and enjoy food and drink specials. Providence makes their only trip of the season to Binghamton on Saturday night. The Sens will return the favor with a trip to Providence on Jan. 8. Each team has won three times in the all-time series with Binghamton taking two of their wins on home ice. The Bruins are 5-5-1-1 in 12 games away from home this season. Their leading scorer, ERIC HEALEY, has 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) in 20 games. He enters the week with points in eight straight games dating back to Nov. 20. Only Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (49) and Milwaukee (53) have allowed less goals than the Bruins (60) this season.

SUNDAY, DEC. 18TH @ ROCHESTER (6:05 p.m.): The Senators are winless in three games against the Amerks this season. Binghamton will also play Rochester away on Dec. 30 and at home on Jan. 6. Rochester continues to have the top rated power-play unit in the league with a 25.4 percent success rate. That success has helped make Rochester one of only four teams in the league to score at least 100 goals as of Monday. The other teams to score 100 or more are Grand Rapids (106), Hershey (105) and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (102). Winger JASON POMINVILLE leads the AHL in goals with 19 despite being called up to Buffalo on Nov. 25 and remaining with the parent club.
