McRae Masterful in Moosic as Indians Salvage Finale, 4-2

MOOSIC, PA - Alex McRae was perfect through five innings and carried a no-hitter into the seventh, and the Indians hung on for a 4-2 victory over Scranton/WB on Thursday afternoon. The win helped Indy avoid a series sweep while snapping a four-game losing streak.

McRae (W, 3-2) retired the first 17 batters he faced as Indianapolis (16-16) mounted a 3-0 lead. The RailRiders (17-13) didn't put a runner on base until Matt Lipka worked a two-out walk in the sixth, but McRae promptly retired Gosuke Katoh on a flyout to keep his no-hit bid intact.

In his final inning of work, McRae sandwiched two flyouts around a walk to Ryan Lavarnway before Mandy Alvarez lined a double to the left-field wall to knock McRae out of the game. Geoff Hartlieb (S, 1) was summoned from the bullpen and struck out Brad Miller to strand two men in scoring position.

The RailRiders finally got on the board in the eighth thanks to a Mike Ford single that plated Cliff Pennington. Patrick Kivlehan smacked his fourth long ball of the year in the ninth for an insurance run, and after the home team answered with another run, Hartlieb erased Pennington on a groundout to seal his first career Triple-A save.

McRae notched his second straight quality start and team-high third of the season in the win, lasting 6.2 innings and allowing just three baserunners. He walked two and fanned five. David Hale (L, 3-1) was touched up for three runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings pitched.

Indianapolis jumped in front with two runs in the third and one more in the fourth. Four straight hits in the third, including doubles by Jake Elmore, Ke'Bryan Hayes and Will Craig, made it 2-0. One inning later, Nick Franklin and Kivlehan opened with back-to-back doubles to extend the lead.

Six of Indianapolis' eight hits went for extra bases. Kivlehan led the offense with his home run and fifth double.

The Tribe continue their six-game road trip through Pennsylvania with the opener of a three-game weekend series on Friday night against Lehigh Valley. Reigning International League Pitcher of the Week, Dario Agrazal (1-0, 1.32), will start for the Indians. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
