Buffalo Bisons News Release
Coolray Field has never been kind to the Bisons, but this year the Herd will leave Georgia victorious.
Andrew Guillotte had a pair of run-scoring hits and Shawn Morimando pitched six strong innings as Buffalo defeated the Stripers, 7-2, Thursday morning on Gwinnett's education day. Jonathan Davis added a leadoff home run as the Bisons earned the 2-1 series win in their lone trip to Coolray Field this season.
Buffalo has never done well at Coolray Field, including just three victories in a four-year span, 2014-2017. Their series win this week in the home of the IL South division foe is only their second since the Braves' Triple-A affiliate moved from Richmond to Gwinnett (2012). Buffalo entered the series only 15-22 since Coolray Field opened in 2009.
But the Bisons wasted little time in Thursday's rubbermatch as the club scored in three of the first four innings of the game. Davis took the second pitch of the ballgame over the wall in left-center field for his fourth home run of the season to opening the scoring.
Then in the second inning, Guillotte came through with the first of two clutch hits. When a doubleplay nearly ruined a scoring opportunity, Guillotte picked up the clutch two-out RBI-single past the third baseman and into left field.
In the fourth, Guillotte's RBI-double into the left field corner keyed a three-run Bisons rally that gave the club a five-run cushion. The Herd infielder finished the game 3-4 with a double, a walk and two RBI.
The run support was plenty for Morimando to pick up his first victory of the season. The lefty allowed just two base runners over the first four frames and was not scored upon until the Stripers pushed across an unearned run in the fifth. In the sixth, Morimando picked up his seventh and final strikeout of the afternoon by throwing a fastball by Sal Giardina with the bases loaded and two outs.
Jordan Romano and Kirby Snead polished off the win with three innings of shutout relief.
Buffalo scored their sixth run of the contest in the sixth inning when Davis walked to lead off the inning and came around on Cavan Biggio's RBI-double.Davis drew a bases loaded walk in the ninth to score the seventh Bisons run.
