November 26, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Missouri Mavericks engineered a pair of goals in all three periods, defeating the Indy Fuel Saturday night by the score of 6-1. In the process, the defending Brabham Cup Regular Season Champions continued their remarkable domination of the Fuel as they defeated Indy for an eighth consecutive time and for a second time in as many meetings thus far this season.
In the opening game of a two-games' series at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum, the Mavericks halted a Fuel 4-game win streak on home ice and an Indy 7-games' unbeaten streak overall. The Saturday night setback represented the Fuel's first loss at home in three weeks, since back on November 5th, when they were ambushed by Quad City, 4-1. It was also the Fuel's; first overall outright defeat since November 9th when they bowed in Alaska, 5-1.
Lukas Loftquist sparked the Mavs 6-goal attack with a pair of thrusts including the GWG at the 9:25 mark of the opening period. Missouri completed the conquest in the contest with two third period power play goals, marking only the second game this season in which Indy has allowed 2-PPGA in a single game.
Defenseman Matt Stanisz accounted for the Fuel's lone goal which came at the 3:30 mark of the third period after the visitors had built a comfortable 4-0 lead. Stanisz has scored both of the Fuel's goals in the two meetings this season against Missouri.
Jake Hildebrand supplanted starting goalkeeper Eric Levine in the third period for the Fuel.
The Mavericks outshot the Fuel, 41-23 as the Indy setback matched their worst of the campaign, having dropped an identical 6-1 verdict in Tulsa against the Oilers back on October 21st.
At 17(8-7-2)18 -points, the Fuel are in fifth place in the Central Division standings while the Mavericks remain in seventh place in the Mountain Division with a record of 16(7-8-1) 15-points.
The same two teams will wrap-up the two-game set Sunday in a 3:05 pm matinee on Family Fun Day at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum. It will be the seventh and final game of a Fuel strenuous stretch consisting of 7-games in 10-days.
