Allen Americans News Release
Boise, Idaho - The Allen Americans opened a two-game weekend set tonight at Century Link Arena against the Idaho Steelheads, and it was Idaho coming out on top by a score of 3-2.
The Steelheads jumped on the board first in the opening frame, as Joe Faust scored his 6th of the season for Idaho with a blast from 5 feet outside the Allen blueline that went off a stanchion in the glass and past Riley Gill to give the Steelheads a 1-0 lead. Travis Ewanyk had the only assist. The Steelheads outshot the Americans 13 to 8 in the opening period.
The Steelheads grabbed a 2-0 lead early in the second, on the third of the season from Caleb Herbert. Will Merchant had the only helper. The score would remain that way until the 6:32 mark of the second, when Greger Hanson scored his eighth of the season on the power play to cut the lead to 2-1. It was Hanson's 99th career goal. Chad Costello assisted on the goal to extend his point streak to eight games. Allen outshot Idaho 10-8 in the second frame.
Idaho regained their two-goal advantage in the third when Kyle Jean scored shorthanded to give the Steelheads a 3-1 lead. It was the sixth shorthanded goal of the season given up by Allen. That's tied for the most shorthanded goals allowed in the ECHL along with Missouri. The Americans cut the lead to 3-2 on the first of the year for Jason Fram. The goal was originally credited to Joel Chouinard, but switched to Fram later in the period. Unfortunately the Americans were unable to get that tying goal, as Idaho would hold on for a 3-2 win that ended the Americans two-game winning streak.
"We couldn't get a bounce to go our way tonight," said Chad Costello. It started with that fluke goal they scored in the first and it seemed we just couldn't get on track."
The Americans and Steelheads resume their weekend series tomorrow night at 8:10 PM CST from Century Link Arena. This was game three of a six game road trip for Allen.
The Americans return to Allen Event Center on Friday December 2nd against the Tulsa Oilers at 7:05 PM. Tickets are on sale at Allen Event Center Box Office or call 972-912-1000.
