2nd Period Scoring Blast Propels Aces to Win

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Tim Wallace scored twice, Peter Sivak tallied his ECHL-leading 5th game winning goal, and goaltender Kevin Carr was outstanding as the Alaska Aces downed the Utah Grizzlies 5-1 Friday at the Sullivan Arena.
Alaska used a four-goal second period to subdue the Grizzlies.
Utah opened the scoring at the 6:33 mark of the first period.
Mathieu Aubin scored his 4th goal of the season on the power play, with assists to Brandon McNally and Tim Daly.
Alaska fired right back just 27 seconds into the second period. Tyler Ruegsegger took a pass in the left circle from Ben Lake, and sniped Utah goaltender Ryan Faragher short-side, stick-side for his 2nd goal of the season. A second helper was credited to Marc-Andre Levesque.
Sivak furnished the game winner at 12:24. Wallace blocked a shot and Sivak took off the other way on a breakaway. Sivak scored with a 5-hole backhand tuck for his 10th goal of the season.
Aces defenseman Mackenze Stewart blasted home his first professional goal at 15:04, as Ben Lake pulled the puck back on a faceoff, and Stewart let fly. His shot went over Faragher's shoulder on a 4-on 4 situation.
Wallace completed the Aces big second period, tipping in a Matt Geurts slap-pass in front of the net at 16:39. Steve Tarasuk also receiving an assist on the play.
In the third period, the Aces continued to press the issue, and Wallace was able to cash in at 17:07 for his second goal of the game, 6th of the season to make it 5-1.
Carr was a stand-out all game long, making at least a handful of highlight-reel saves. He finished with 28 saves and the win. Faragher stopped 20 Alaska shots in the loss.
With the win, Alaska goes to 9-4-0-1 on the season. Utah drops to 7-8-1-1.
The Aces and Grizzlies will play again at 7:15pm AST Saturday and 3:05pm AST Sunday at the Sullivan Arena.
