Mallards Roll in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Chris Francis and Michael Parks provided a goal and an assist apiece and Sam Warning piled up three assists as the Quad City Mallards (10-6-1) ripped off four straight second period goals on the way to a 6-2 victory over the host Fort Wayne Komets (9-5-2) Saturday night.

The second period Mallard onslaught started only after Fort Wayne's Kyle Thomas broke a scoreless deadlock from the slot at the 2:08 of the second. The Komet lead lasted only until Andrew Panzarella evened the score with a drive from the right point two minutes and twelve seconds later. Kevin Gibson's blast from the high slot gave the Mallards a 2-1 lead at 8:22. Francis and Parks struck 37 seconds apart to stretch the lead to 4-1 later in the second. Francis rifled the third Mallard goal home from the high slot at 14:22. Parks one-timed number four from the left wing circle at 14:59.

At 4:19 of the third period, Cody Sol narrowed the gap to 4-2 from the left wing circle but Jack Nevins would reestablish the three-goal Mallard lead by burying Warning's centering pass at 7:05. Justin Kovacs' empty net goal capped off the Mallard victory with 24 seconds remaining.

The Mallards return to action on the road next Thursday night against the Brampton Beast. The Mallards next play at home Wednesday night, December 7 against the Kalamazoo Wings. That game and a ll Mallards Wednesday night home games this season face off at the special early start time of 6:35.
