Boise, ID - Kyle Jean raced down a loose puck in the neutral zone, fought off defenseman Joel Chouinard, and beat Riley Gill between the legs for a short-handed goal and the eventual game-winner, as the Idaho Steelheads (10-5-2) outlasted the Allen Americans (8-10-0) by a 3-2 score in front of 4,730 fans at CenturyLink Arena.

Jean was able to win the race to a bouncing puck and snap a shot through Riley Gill as Chouinard was draped all over him at 7:51 of the third period. It was Jean's fourth goal of the season, and Idaho's second short-handed goal in their last two home games, and it gave the Steelheads a 3-1 lead.

The Americans would tighten the gap when Jason Fram redirected a Chouinard shot behind Branden Komm for his first professional goal at 13:21 of the third to make it 3-2, but that was as close as Allen would come. The Americans put heavy pressure on in the closing minutes, with Kellan Lain in the box for tripping and the net empty. The Steelheads survived, with Corbin Baldwin and Travis Ewanyk blocking shots in the final moments to help secure the win.

The Steelheads killed off six of seven disadvantages and have now killed 23 of 25 disadvantages over the last seven games.

Idaho got on the board first at 8:13 of the first period thanks in part to a fortunate bounce. Joe Faust tried to rim the puck around the glass from the neutral zone, but the puck took a sharp carom off the stanchion and zipped right past Gill for Faust's sixth of the season.

The Steelheads extended that lead to 2-0 at 1:58 of the second period, when Will Merchant and Caleb Herbert joined forces on the forecheck to cause a turnover behind the Allen net, the loose puck popping out in front for Herbert to bury his third of the season.

Chad Costello set up Greger Hanson for a power play one-timer at 6:32 of the second period for his eighth of the season to make it 2-1.

The game featured three fights, two of them involving Allen's Derek Mathers. Mathers was also called for a five minute boarding major and a game misconduct in the third period after hitting Steelheads' forward Rob Linsmayer from behind.

With the win, the Steelheads are now unbeaten in regulation in their past six games (5-0-1) and are 9-2-1 in their last 12 outings. With the win, coupled with the Colorado Eagles' shootout loss on Friday night, the Steelheads and Eagles will both have 22 points in the standings.

The Steelheads and Americans complete their two-game series Saturday night at CenturyLink Arena, with puck-drop scheduled for 7:10pm MT. The game is available on 1350AM KTIK, Cable One, and ECHLTV.

COORS LIGHT OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME Kyle Jean: Game-winning short-handed goal, plus-1 rating, 2 shots

PLAY OF THE GAME: Kyle Jean's speed is well-documented, but his game-winning short-handed goal was also a show of strength as he fought off one of the best defensive defensemen in the ECHL. Joel Chouinard is ranked fifth in the ECHL with a plus-13 rating, and he was doing everything in his power to knock Jean off the puck as he continued to battle his way to the net. With Chouinard's arms wrapped around him, Jean managed to get the blade of his stick on the puck for a quick snap shot to put the puck through Riley Gill's legs. The Steelhead power play had difficulties scoring Friday, but their work short-handed won them the game, with Jean's goal serving as an exclamation point.
