Lawson Named Goaltender of the Month

Fort Wayne, IN --- The United Hockey League announced today that Komet goalie Tom Lawson has been the UHL's Goaltender of the Week for the week ending Dec. 29, 2002. It marks the 3rd time this season Lawson has been honored with the award. Lawson, 23, also received the honor for weeks ending Nov. 3 and Nov. 10. Lawson also earned the UHL's Goaltender of the Month award for the month of November, 2002.

Lawson appeared in all 3 Komet games for the week going 2-0-1. He allowed only 1 goal on 52 shots for a 0.41 goals-against average and .981 save percentage. Lawson also registered his 4th shutout of the season (and career) making 16 saves in regulation in a 1-0 shootout loss at Flint Friday, Dec. 27.

Saturday, Dec. 28 Lawson stopped 19 of 20 shots in a 3-1 Komet win at Flint. Sunday, Dec. 29 the award-winning netminder entered the game at the 12:35 mark of the 2nd period and preserved a shutout and 4-0 win over the visiting Rockford IceHogs for starter Parris Duffus in relief on 16 stops.

The Whitby, Ontario native leads UHL goaltenders with a 1.72 average, ..951 save percentage and 4 shutouts. Lawson has a record of 12-6-3 after appearing in 23 games so far this season.
