Grrrowl drop two games to Florida

The Greenville Grrrowl suspended leading scorer JONATHAN ROY for leaving the team last Monday. Roy will finish the season in Germany. On the ice, the Grrrowl lost two games to Florida – 4-1 on Friday and 2-1 on Saturday.

FRIDAY: Greenville spotted Florida a 1-0 lead, before TYLER DEIS tied the game at 1-1 with a powerplay goal at 13:28 of the first period. The Everblades scored 3 unanswered goals after that and posted a 4-1 victory in front of 5,112 at the BI-LO Center. Ryan Murphy scored two goals in the winning effort, while Rob Zepp stopped 31 of 32 Greenville shots.

SATURDAY: Florida, again, scored first before JUDD MEDAK tied the game at 1-1 with 1:21 left in the first period. The Everblades outshot the Grrrowl, 38-24, in front of 5,204 at the BI-LO Center. Ryan Murphy scored both Florida goals, including the game-winner with just :32 seconds remaining in the third period.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – JUDD MEDAK

The Edmonton, Alberta native recorded the only goal in Greenville's 2-1 loss to the Florida Everblades on Saturday at the BI-LO Center. Medak was also named to the ECHL Southern Conference All-Star team. He is currently tied for 4th in rookie scoring with 30 points.

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK – MICHAEL GARNETT

The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native stopped 36 of 38 shots from the Florida Everblades in Saturday's 2-1 loss at the BI-LO Center. Garnett is 7-8-0 with a 3.62 Goals Against Average in 15 games this season with the Greenville Grrrowl.

NEW YEAR'S EVE (TUE.) @ CHARLOTTE – 7:05 PM, The Grrrowl opened the season with a 1-0 forfeit wino over the Checkers at Cricket Arena on October 11th, and they'll close the 2002 portion of their schedule in Charlotte on Tuesday... Coach Don MacAdam's club has played a league-low 29 games... DUSTY JAMIESON is tied for third amongst rookies with 15 goals... the Checkers are 5-7-0 at home... the Checkers have not been involved in a shootout game this season... NEXT MEETING: 2/25/03 @ Greenville.

FRIDAY, 1/03 @ AUGUSTA – 7:35 PM, The Grrrowl and Lynx prepare for their 4th of 8 regular season meetings... Greenville is 3-0-0 against Augusta... Coach David Wilkie's club is above .500 at home (7-6-0), but they're just 3-14-1 on the road...both of Augusta's special team's are ranked 26th of 27 – PP 11.1% and PK 77.2%...Augusta has been outscored 40-24 in the first period... NEXT MEETING: 2/16/03 @ Greenville.

SATURDAY, 1/04 @ SOUTH CAROLINA – 7:30 PM, The Grrrowl and Stingrays prepare for their 5th of 9 meetings... Greenville is 1-2-1 vs. South Carolina... the Stingrays are on top of the Southeast Division with 43 points after 31 games... they have lost just once in 12 games at the N. Charleston Coliseum – 7-1-4 at home... goaltender KIRK DAUBENSPECK leads the league with 18 wins... NEXT MEETING: 2/07/03 @ Greenville.
