December 30, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greensboro Generals News Release
GREENSBORO, NC - For the first time all season, the Greensboro Generals have lost two consecutive games in regulation. A 4-2 home loss to the Charlotte Checkers have pushed the Generals five points out of first place in the Northeast Division. With 3,362 in attendance at the Greensboro Coliseum, the Generals missed out on an opportunity to capture the Carolina Cup, an award given annually to the team with the best head-to-head record between Charlotte and Greensboro.
A scoring flurry by the Checkers (13-15-1) put the Generals in an early 3-0 hole. The first came on a power-play conversion at the 6:00 mark with Dave Inman scoring. With 3:10 remaining in the period, Charlotte struck again with a controversial goal by Kurt Seher. The Checkers' Brandon Cullen would score the final goal of the first period seconds later, sending Charlotte into the break with a 3-0 lead.
The only goal of the second period came off the stick of Charlotte's Nic Bilotto, at the 15:16 mark of the period.
In the third period, trailing 4-0, the Generals would take advantage of a power play opportunity of their own with Shane Campbell scoring at the 13:50 mark. Matt Turek would score the Generals second goal of the night but the Generals could not muster enough offense to come any closer.
The Generals visit the first place Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. The game can be heard on tape delay at 5:45 p.m. on WPET 950AM and www.greensborogenerals.com. The Generals return to the Greensboro Coliseum on Tuesday, December 31st, where fans are encouraged to dress formally and register to win two free airline tickets.
