Reading Royals News Release


The Reading Royals opened their season high five-game road stand this week. The Royals had won four straight on the road before being pummeled by Cincinnati Friday night. The 13-2 loss was the worst in Royals history. Saturday, the Royals traveled to Peoria where the Rivermen swept the two-game season set with Reading winning 6-3. The Royals final three games on the road will begin this week in Greensboro for games against the Generals on Thursday and Friday. Finally, Reading will finish the week with Roanoke on Sunday.

Thursday, January 2 @ Greensboro Greensboro Coliseum 7:00PM

GAME NOTES: The Reading Royals and Greensboro Generals will meet in back-to-back games in Greensboro this week. The Royals are 1-2-0 against Greensboro this season. Reading and Greensboro will meet just one more time this season after these games – in Reading on January 18.

Friday, January 3 @ Greensboro Greensboro Coliseum 7:30PM

GAME NOTES: The Generals have defeated the Royals in their last two tries. Sam Ftorek was the hero in the Generals 6-3 win in Reading on December 3. Ftorek scored four goals and added an assist in the victory. Generals goaltender Daniel Berthiaume has been the netminder for all three starts against the Royals.

Sunday, January 5 @ Roanoke Roanoke Civic Center 7:00PM

GAME NOTES: The Reading Royals take on the Roanoke Express for the fourth time this season. The Express have owned the Royals this season and all-time posting a 3-0-0 mark in 2002-03 and a 7-1-0 mark all-time.

Friday, December 27 @ Cincinnati Sports Arena 7:05PM

GAME NOTES: The Reading Royals set many team records in a negative fashion losing 13-2 to the Cincinnati Cyclones. Cincinnati went 7 for 7 on the power play and got scoring from 13 different skaters. The loss was the worst in franchise history. Reading and Cincinnati meet one more time this season in Cincinnati on March 18, 2003.

Saturday, December 28 @ Peoria Carver Arena 7:00PM

GAME NOTES: The Peoria Rivermen swept the season series with the Reading Royals winning in Carver Arena, 6-3. The Royals all-time mark against the Rivermen dropped to 2-3-0 with the defeat. Former Royal, Brendan Brooks led the attack for Peoria netting two goals and an assist. The Royals got markers from All Star Simon Tremblay, Brandon Dietrich, and Duilio Grande. The two teams combined for 148 penalty minutes.

ROYALS PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE:

#5 Defenseman – Simon Tremblay 2GP – 1g, 3a 4pts/ -2 - 3-game point scoring streak (12/22-pre)

All-Star Defenseman Simon Tremblay had back-to-back multiple point games over the weekend. Tremblay added two assists in the Royals loss on Friday in Cincinnati...Saturday in Peoria Tremblay tallied a goal and an assist in the Royals 6-3 loss. The Quebec native has scored a point or more in nine of his last ten outings.
