Augusta Lynx News Release


The Augusta Lynx were 1-2-0 this week, dropping two road games and winning at home. For the month of December the Lynx are 4-6-0. The overall record now stands at 10-20-1. The Lynx remain seventh in the Southeastern Division.

The Lynx traveled to Columbia, SC Thursday, December 26 to battle the Columbia Inferno for the fifth time this season. The Inferno defeated the Lynx 6-3 and the Inferno now lead the series 3-2. The Lynx opened the scoring at the 6:52 mark of the first period with a goal by Lance Galbraith, his second of the season. Jim Shepherd and Martin Lapointe were credited with the assists. Columbia took the lead with two goals scored by Barrie Moore and Sean Owens just fifty-four seconds apart. The Inferno would tally two more goals, a short-handed by Chris Pittman and a power-play by Matt Ulwelling. Pittman and Ulwelling scored again to finish out the Inferno's scoring and increase the lead to 6-1. The Lynx would battle back and add two more to the score board with goals from Josh St. Louis, assisted by Shepherd and Galbraith, and another by Galbraith from St. Louis. Lynx goaltender David Brumby got the loss, stopping thirty-two shots. The Lynx were 0-7 on the power-play while the Inferno was 1-7.

The Lynx returned home Friday, December 27 defeating the Columbus Cottonmouths by a score of 6-1. Lapointe opened the scoring for the Lynx on a power-play goal from Williamson and Shepherd. The Lynx would continue the assault on the Cottonmouhs with three goals by Jay Leach, Galbraith, and Williamson. Williamson and Lapointe were each credited with an assist on two of the goals and Sergei Kuznetsov and Jeff Szwez also tallied assists. Columbus got on the board with a power-play goal from Carlyle Lewis. Lynx Defenseman Mike Perna tallied his first goal of the season, assisted by Ryan Lauzon and Brad Ralph. Szwez finished up the scoring on a goal from Williamson and Kuznetsov. Colin Zulianello recorded the win in his return debut with the Lynx allowing one goal on twenty-three shots. The Lynx were 2-4 on the power-play while the Cottonmouths were 1-6.

Augusta traveled to Florence, SC to take on the Pee Dee Pride Saturday, December 28 losing 6-2. Wes Goldie opened the scoring for the Pride scoring two goals just seventeen seconds apart in the first period. St. Louis scored from John Campbell and Doug Christiansen mid-way through the first period. Pee Dee would score two power-play goals in the second period from Ryan Knox and Matt Reid. The Pride's Gregor Krajnc added another one to the board in the third. Winger Jason Shmyr got his third goal of the season assisted by Williamson and St. Louis. Krajnc tallied one more late in the third to finish up the scoring. Zulianello was credited with the loss, with Brumby coming in relief, stopping eleven of thirteen shots. The Lynx outshot the Pride 34-26 and were 0-2 on the power-play while the Pride was 1-4.

Player of the Month: Andrew Williamson had 12 points in the 10 games in December. He had four goals and eight assists.

Goaltender of the Month: Curtis Cruickshank was 3-2-0 for December with a GAA of 2.80 and a Save Percentage of 0.921.

Monday, December 30: Tune into the "Blue Line Report" with the Mac Daddy on Fox Sports Radio 1340 AM at 5:45 and hear an interview with a Lynx player. Join the Lynx at Cadillac's Fine Food and Spirits at 7 pm for the "Behind the Bench Coach's Show" with Head Coach David Wilkie and Kyle Schultz.

Thursday, January 2: At 5:45 pm, join the Mac Daddy on Fox Sports Radio 1340 AM for the "Blue Line Report." McNeil will have a Lynx player on the air. "The Locker Room Report" airs at 8:30 pm on Comcast Channel 4.

Friday, January 3: Join the Mac Daddy, Charles McNeil for the "Blue Line Report" on Fox Sports Radio 1340 AM at 5:45 pm. The Lynx host the Greenville Grrrowl at 7:35 pm. It's GLIT Sponge Bucket give-away night. The first 1500 fans will receive a free bucket.

Saturday, January 4: The Lynx return to Florence, SC to take on the Pee Dee Pride. Game time is 7:30 pm at the Florence City-County Civic Center. Sunday, January 5: The Charlotte Checkers travel to Augusta with a game time of 4:05 pm at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center. The first 1000 children will receive a Lynx Youth Jersey. It is also North Augusta Chamber of Commerce Night. Contact the Lynx office for more details.
