Falcons Claw Way Back above .500
December 30, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release
Last week consisted of the first three games in three days stretch since the second weekend of the season. Fresno dropped the first of the three at Bakersfield on Dec. 26, 5-3. The teams then played the back half of the two-game, home-and-home series on Friday at Selland Arena, which the Falcons won in a shootout, 5-4. The victory was the club's first of the year against the Condors, against whom they are now 1-7-1. The final game of the week on Saturday saw the Falcons give-up a season-high 42 shots on goal to the Long Beach Ice Dogs, but they still prevailed, 3-2, behind a 40-save performance from Terry Friesen and a game-winning, power play goal from Tyler Prosofsky with just 2:19 to play.
The victory against Long Beach not only pushed Fresno back above .500 to 12-11-3, it also helped them leapfrog the Ice Dogs in the standings. Fresno is now in fourth place in the league with 27 points, one point ahead of Long Beach and 10 behind the third-place Condors.
ROAD TRIP TO BEGIN THE NEW YEAR
The Falcons embark on their longest road trip to date as 2003 begins, which will take them to four of the WCHL's five other cities. Their six-game trek begins this Friday and Saturday in Idaho against the first-place Steelheads. It then continues in Anchorage on Jan. 7 and 8 before the team returns to California for a pair at Bakersfield and Long Beach on Jan. 10 and 11, respectively.
Friday and Saturday's games from Idaho can both be heard live on 103.1 FM, The Mountain Cat, beginning at 5:50 p.m. each evening with the Mail Boxes, Etc. Pre-game Show.
ZOOPERSTARS AND FREDDIE'S BIRTHDAY HIGHLIGHT RETURN TO SELLAND
The Falcons' next home game at Selland Arena is on Sunday, Jan. 12, at 5 p.m. Their tilt against the Anchorage Aces will feature between-periods-entertainment from the Zooperstars as well as Freddie the Falcon's birthday celebration. Tickets are available for the game at the Selland Arena box office, all Ticketmaster locations and at www.ticketmaster.com.
