Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights walked-off with a thrilling 5-4 win in 13 innings on Tuesday night in the opening game of a six-game series from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. First baseman Zach Remillard scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the 13th on a sacrifice fly by designated hitter Tim Beckham.
The Knights and Tides battled back and forth in Tuesday's opener. With the game tied at 3-3, the two teams went into extra innings and continued to battle. In the top of the 11th inning, the Tides took the lead on an RBI single by Seth Mejias-Brean. The Knights battled right back in the bottom of the 11th thanks to a Jake Burger RBI single.
With the game now tied at 4-4 in the 13th, Beckham lined a 1-1 pitch to center fielder Zach Jarrett, who made a tough catch. Remillard then raced home to score the game-winning run.
Burger led the way offensively for the Knights with four hits. He launched his 10th home run of the season in the bottom of the second and finished the game 4-for-4 with the home run, two runs scored, two RBIs and two walks.
LHP Tanner Banks (3-2, 3.75) earned the win after three solid innings in relief. He allowed just one unearned run on two hits, while striking out five batters.
The Knights will continue the six-game series against the Norfolk Tides on Wednesday. First pitch of game two from Uptown Charlotte is set for 7:04 p.m. on Wednesday night.
