IronPigs rally halted in the 9th

(Trenton, NJ) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (21-29) rally in the top of the ninth on Wednesday night against the Buffalo Bisons (29-19) came up short as they lost 10-9. Matt Vierling hit an RBI triple in the inning while Mickey Moniak added an RBI single. The IronPigs had two runners on the base with less than two outs and finished the night 4-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

IronPigs starting pitcher Chase Anderson made a Good Shepherd Rehabilitation appearance. He pitched two shutout innings before the IronPigs bullpen would take things the rest of the way. Lehigh Valley would take a 2-0 lead against Thomas Hatch in the top of the third inning as two runs scored on a fielding error by Richard Urena.

Buffalo took a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the third inning against Ramon Rosso as Alejandro Kirk hit a sacrifice fly to score Urena and Rowdy Tellez hit an RBI single to score Breyvic Valera. Christian Colon added three more runs when he hit a home run.

The IronPigs got a run back in the top of the fourth inning when Darick Hall hit a home run against Hatch. The home run was his fourth of the season. Buffalo scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Kevin Smith hit a sacrifice fly against Bryan Mitchell to score Kirk to take a 6-3 lead.

Lehigh Valley took a 7-6 lead in the top of the sixth inning. Ryan Cordell, Dalton Guthrie, and Charlie Tilson all hit RBI doubles, while Rafael Marchan added an RBI groundout. The lead did not last long as Buffalo scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning against Mauricio Llovera (2-1) to take a 9-7 lead. Logan Warmoth hit a three-run home run. Kevin Smith hit a home run against Llovera in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend Buffalo's lead to 10-7.

Jeff Singer pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 inning of relief. He gave up one hit and struck out two batters. Hobie Harris (2-2) earned the win for Buffalo, while Bryan Baker earned his sixth save of the season. The IronPigs and Bisons play at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening.
