Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - RHP Mike Wright was sharp over seven innings and catcher Seby Zavala launched a solo home run to lead the Charlotte Knights to a thrilling 7-4 win over the Norfolk Tides on Wednesday night from Truist Field.
Wright (5-1, 2.77) continued his impressive 2021 campaign with the Knights. The 31-year-old allowed four runs on five hits over seven innings for the win - his team-high fifth of the season. Wright also struck-out five batters on the night.
Offensively, the Knights had two key innings to power past the Tides in game two. After Zavala's solo home run in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1, the Knights added two runs in the third inning and three more in the sixth to pull away from the Tides.
Infielder Jake Burger, who was named to the 2021 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game earlier in the day, went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. He upped his batting average to .322 on the season. Outfielder Blake Rutherford chipped in with two hits.
Relievers Tayron Guerrero and Nik Turley were solid over the final two innings to close the door on Wednesday's game. Turley earned his fourth save of the season in the ninth inning.
The Knights and Tides will continue the six-game series from Truist Field on Thursday with first pitch on tap for 7:04 p.m. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time radio broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
