Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Omaha Storm Chasers could not overcome seven home runs from the St. Paul Saints and fell in the series opener, 15-4, on Tuesday at CHS Field.

Omaha (32-16) has lost back-to-back games for the first time since May 20-21, the final two games of a season-long three-game losing streak. Sunday, June 27 and Tuesday, June 29 mark just the second time the Chasers have lost two consecutive games this season.

St. Paul (22-26) leapt in front with four runs in the bottom of the first against right-hander Jakob Junis (Loss, 0-2). Jose Miranda hit a solo home run in his first career Triple-A at-bat to lead off the inning, and Damek Tomcha hit a three-run homer later in the frame.

The Chasers battled back with a run in the second on a two-out RBI single by shortstop Alcides Escobar and scored in the third inning when Gabriel Cancel doubled, stole third, and scored on a throwing error.

The Saints scored 11 unanswered runs between the third and sixth innings, beginning with four runs in the bottom of the third on a grand slam by Miranda. St. Paul added a run in the fourth on a solo homer by Tomscha, hit second of the game, before tallying three runs in the fifth on solo home runs by Miranda, Brent Rooker, and Mark Contreras.

Miranda finished the game 5-for-6 with three home runs, a double, and six RBIs, becoming the first opponent to hit three home runs in a single game against Omaha since Iowa's Mike Freeman on April 30, 2018. He's the first opponent with five hits in a game against Omaha since Reno's Domingo Leyba had five hits on August 2, 2019.

St. Paul's final three runs came in the sixth inning. After Drew Maggi reached on an error and moved to third on a groundout, he scored on an infield single by Keon Broxton. Following Miranda's double to put runners on second and third, Rooker sent a single to right field to bring in the final two runs of the game for the Saints.

Cancel smacked a solo home run in the seventh, his 12th home run of the season, to finish the game 3-for-5 with a home run, double, and stolen base. Kyle Isbel also stole a base as part of a 2-for-5 night, giving him 12 steals in 12 attempts this season.

The Chasers added a run in the eighth on an infield single by shortstop Angelo Castellano after loading the bases on a walk, hit-by-pitch, and single from Nick Dini. Dini finished the game 2-for-4 for his third multi-hit game in five games with Omaha this season.

Kyle Barraclough (Win, 5-0) was awarded the win for the Saints, pitching two scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth innings.

The Storm Chasers continue their series with the St. Paul Saints on Wednesday at CHS Field in St. Paul, Minn., when right-hander Scott Blewett (3-2, 5.75) faces LHP Andrew Albers (2-3, 5.70). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show at 6:45 p.m. on 1180 The Zone.

After the series in St. Paul, the Omaha Storm Chasers return to Werner Park on Tuesday, July 6, to begin a six-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens that features special FNBO Summer Fireworks Series shows on July 8 and July 10 and an Adalberto Mondesi bobblehead giveaway on July 9.
