K-Wings Get Career Night from Witt, Lose to Komets
November 20, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
FORT WAYNE, IN- Clay Witt made a career-high 34 stops for the Kalamazoo Wings, but it would be the Fort Wayne Komets who prevailed, 3-1, on Friday night at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.
Going to work on their first power play opportunity of the contest, the Komets only needed three seconds of man-advantage time to capitalize. Cody Corbett blasted a slap shot past Witt, giving Fort Wayne a 1-0 lead, 9:29 into the period.
Kalamazoo struck back on a power play of their own just a few minutes later, tying the game at one. Ludwig Blomstrand found a soft spot in the Fort Wayne penalty kill at the top of the slot, and snapped a quick wrister over the glove of Pat Nagle and into the top corner for the equalizer.
However, the game would only remain tied for forty seconds, as Kyle Thomas forced a turnover in the Kalamazoo end and carried in uncontested on Witt. Thomas waited patiently and steered one towards the goal with the puck narrowly inching over the goal line. The tally was the eventual game winner and gave the Komets a 2-1 lead after a period of play.
Midway through the middle period, the Wings were looking to get settled in on their fourth power play of the game, but it would be the Komets who would cash in. Mike Embach swiped the puck and carried into the Kalamazoo end where he beat Witt with a quick snap shot for a shorthanded marker that built the Fort Wayne lead to 3-1.
The third period featured a myriad of chances from both teams, with the goaltenders, Witt and Nagle, stealing the show. Trailing by two with time running down, Kalamazoo pulled Witt in favor of an extra attacker, but the Wings were unable to convert and Fort Wayne escaped with the victory.
