Tulsa Oilers News Release
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP
The Oilers begin a stretch of three games in three days with the second meeting of the season against the Mavericks. Tulsa leads the season series 1-0 after a 4-3 shootout win over Missouri on October 30 at the BOK Center. The Oilers are looking to snap a four-game winless skid (0-3-0-1) while the Mavs are gunning for a seventh consecutive victory.
KEY CONTESTS AHEAD
The outing against the Allen Americans last Friday was the first of eight consecutive games for the Oilers against Central Division opponents. The Oilers are 3-3-0-1 against Central Division foes so far this season and trail the division-leading Missouri Mavericks by 14 points.
ROSTER SHAKEUP
Earlier this week the Oilers claimed forward Alex Grieve off waivers. A 25-year old from Calgary, Alberta, Grieve appeared in three games this season for the Alaska Aces and played in his first three pro games at the end of last season for the Quad City Mallards. Last week, the Oilers acquired forward Emerson Clark in trade with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. Clark, who will make his Tulsa debut tonight against the Mavericks, posted five points (3 goals, 2 assists) and 25 penalty minutes in nine games for the Swamp Rabbits.
FEELING FEISTY
The Oilers were assessed a season-high three fighting majors in Friday's loss to the Americans and over their last five games, the Oilers have been involved in a total of ten fights. Tulsa is tied for third in the ECHL with 13 majors this season and ranks ninth in the league with 16 penalty minutes per contest.
SIGNS OF LIFE
Last week, the Oilers scored power play goals in back-to-back games for the first time this season. Brandon Wong potted a rebound on a 5-on-3 power play in Wichita on Wednesday and Kyle Bochek deflected home a slap shot on a 5-on-4 advantage on Friday against Allen. Tulsa stands at 21st in the ECHL with a power play success rate of 13.2-percent.
STANDING TALL
Goaltenders Kevin Carr and Jussi Olkinuora, who have been alternating starts through the first 11 games, have combined for a 2.33 goals against average and a .916 save percentage. The Oilers are one of five teams in the ECHL to have both goalies rank in the top 20 in goals against average.
SCORING SLUMP
Over the last four games, the Oilers have managed to score only five goals while posting an 0-3-0-1 record. Tulsa is averaging just 2.09 goals per game (26th in the ECHL) and putting up only 24.7 shots per game (27th in the ECHL). Through the first 11 games of last season, the Oilers scored 46 goals and in the same span this season, the Oilers have found the back of the net only 23 times.
OIL DROPS
The Oilers will play three games in three days over each of the next two weekends...Tulsa is 0-6 this season when giving up the first goal of the game...Rookie center Dan DeSalvo is back in the lineup tonight after sitting out the last two games with an undisclosed injury...With two goals against Allen last Friday, Kyle Bochek joined Phil Brewer as the only Oilers to record multiple goals in a single game this season.
