Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. - Jake Baker broke a 2-2 tie with just under six minutes left in the third period and the host Quad City Mallards (7-5-3) went on to defeat the Alaska Aces (5-10-2) 4-2 Friday night.

The Mallards were on the power play when Mike Monfredo set the stage for Baker's game winner by tying the score with a blast from the blue line at 8:55 of the third. It was during another Mallard man advantage that Baker- with an assist from Monfredo- fired in the tie breaker from the left wing circle at 14:03 of the final frame. Tanner Eberle's empty net goal clinched the Mallard victory with 34 seconds remaining.

The Mallards rallied after twice falling behind. The Aces' Joe Perry swept the opening goal home from the slot at 11:11 of the first period. Alex Gudbranson beat the first period buzzer to tie the game. Gudbranson knotted the score at one from the side of the net with just three tenths of second left in the first.

Alaska grabbed a 2-1 lead when Landon Oslanski scored from the point on the power play at 8:05 of the second period but the Mallards would roar back in the third.

Friday evening was also East Moline Community Night at the iWireless Center thanks to the efforts of participating sponsors Toppert Jetting Service, Pillar Equipment and Electro Freeze as well as the Mallards fans of East Moline.

The Mallards return to action tomorrow night on the road against the Indy Fuel. The Mallards next play at home Sunday at 4:05 p.m. against the Fuel. Sunday will see the Mallards team with R.I.A. Federal Credit Union to collect donations for Toys for Tots at that game. Fans who bring a new, unwrapped toy to Sunday's game or drop off a toy at any R.I.A. Federal Credit Union location before Sunday's game will receive a voucher good for $5 off a ticket to Sunday's contest.
