Brampton Beast News Release

BRAMPTON, ON - Brandon Marino and Luc Blain each recorded a goal and an assist but the Toledo Walleye scored two goals in the third period to take a 3-2 victory over the Brampton Beast at the Powerade Centre on Friday night.

Trevor Cann was rock solid between the pipes and made 21 saves, while Toledo starter Jeff Lerg was nearly unbeatable and earned the victory with 25 stops.

Luc Blain paced the Beast to a 1-0 lead after the opening period with his third goal of the year. The Beast were all over the Walleye in the early going and their efforts paid off as Blain located the puck in the slot and quickly turned and fired the puck on goal. Lerg thought he made the save but the puck deflected up and over the goaltender and into the open cage at 13:13.

The Beast's strong play continued into the second period. Brampton peppered Lerg with 16 shots through two periods but the 5'6" goaltender proved to be up to the task.

Toledo's strong goaltending sparked the club late in the second period as Alden Hirschfeld banked one in off of Cann's leg with just 23 seconds remaining in the second period.

The Beast quickly erased that goal from their memory and responded almost immediately following the opening faceoff in the third period. Marino carried the puck in on the right wing and sent a laser of a wrist shot to the top corner to give the Beast the 2-1 lead at 1:28.

Toledo tied the game near the halfway point of the third period as Max Gaede picked up the puck in the slot off of a failed wraparound attempt and fired a quick shot that beat Cann at 9:54.

Marek Tverdon scored the game-winner at 14:05 with a wrist shot from the right circle.

The Beast maintained pressure throughout the remainder of the third period but Lerg kicked out 10 shots in the final frame alone to seal the win for Toledo.
