Wheeling Nailers News Release

ESTERO, FL- The Wheeling Nailers had their goal scorers on the tops of their games on Saturday night, but also needed their goaltender to step up with a large performance. Brian Foster thwarted away 48 of 51 Florida Everblades shots, and Zack Torquato scored two of five goals for the Nailers, who picked up their second win in as many tries at Germain Arena.

For the second straight game, the tone was set early, as the two teams combined to put five pucks into the back of the net. Florida picked up the first goal at the 1:33 mark, as Gabriel Desjardins stole a puck in neutral ice, before wristing in a shot from the left circle. It took the Nailers 69 seconds to respond, as Jarrett Burton wiggled a pass back to Evan Wardley, who ripped a left point slap shot along the ice and into the back of the net. Wheeling then took its first lead of the evening at the 8:31 mark. Brett Stern's right circle shot was gloved down by Anthony Peters, but the puck somehow found its way in, courtesy of Riley Brace. 58 seconds after that, the visitors struck again. John McCarron entered into the offensive zone with a pass to Paul Cianfrini on his left. Cianfrini immediately hooked up with Zack Torquato, who tucked a shot under Peters and in. The Everblades cut their deficit to one with 6:42 remaining, when Corey Syvret tapped in a loose puck in the crease.

After the explosive first, only one goal was scored in the middle frame, and it was the Nailers who regained their two-goal edge. Shortly after a 5-on-3 came to an end, Wheeling cashed in on a 5-on-4. Riley Brace handed the puck to Sahir Gill, who teed up a one-timer for Zack Torquato in the left circle. Torquato drove his shot over Peters' right shoulder for his second tally of the game and third of the week.

The Nailers added to their advantage with 6:19 left in the contest. Evan Wardley let a shot go from the right point, which was redirected home by Cody Wydo. John McCarron also picked up a helper, joining five other players with multiple point evenings. Florida's Brant Harris notched one more goal to make the margin two at 5-3, but that's where it stayed, thanks to Wheeling's stupendous goaltending.

Brian Foster stood remarkably tall, making 48 saves on 51 shots in the win for Wheeling, while Anthony Peters allowed five goals on 24 shots in the loss for Florida.

The Nailers and Everblades will conclude their three-games series on Saturday night, before Wheeling returns home for two games during Thanksgiving Week. November 25th will be a WesBanco Winning Wednesday, the first 2,500 fans will receive thundersticks, and Turkey Bowling will take place during intermission. Then, on the 28th, it's Military Appreciation Night, and the first 2,000 fans will receive a free camo hat, courtesy of Main Street Bank.
