Kalamazoo Wings News Release

KALAMAZOO- The Kalamazoo Wings blue line just got bigger and better heading into their road game tonight against the Wheeling Nailers, as the American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons have reassigned defenseman Brett Ponich to the K-Wings.

At 6'7" and 220 pounds, Ponich adds size to the K-Wings defensive core. A four-year pro, Ponich started the season with the Falcons, posting 4 assists and 105 minutes in penalties in 33 games. Being reassigned to Kalamazoo is a homecoming for Ponich, who played in 51 games last year for the K-Wings.

Besides size, Ponich brings experience to the K-Wings blue-line. Ponich has played 134 of his 203 pro games in the AHL.

A former second round (48th overall) selection of the St. Louis Blues in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Ponich played five seasons of junior hockey in the Western Hockey League with the Portland Winter Hawks.

The K-Wings will return home to Wings Stadium on Tuesday, March 17th for a 7 p.m. face-off versus the Indy Fuel during the 34th Annual "World Famous" St. Patrick's Day Green Ice Game, presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts. Green Ice will feature specialty jerseys, which will be auctioned off following the game, green beer, bag pipers, food and drink specials.

Tickets for all K-Wings home games are currently on sale at Wings Stadium Ticket Office, all Ticketmaster locations, including www.ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745-3000.

Fans that plan on attending multiple games can avoid service fees plus enjoy a discount from the single-game price by purchasing a 12, 24 or 36-game flexi-plan. These plans along with group ticket packages (15 or more people) may be ordered through the K-Wings front office by calling (269) 743-6011.
