Cyclones Fall to Solar Bears, 3-2
March 13, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - A third period goal by Brock Montgomery proved to be the game-winner as the Orlando Solar Bears (29-21-4-3) held on to beat the Cincinnati Cyclones (26-25-1-5) by a 3-2 final score in front of 4,447 at U.S. Bank Arena on Friday night.
The Solar Bears drew first blood using the power play late in the opening frame as Jacob Cepis potted a loose puck past Rob Madore (L, 17 saves, 11-14-1-4) to make it 1-0. At the other end of the ice, Maxime Clermont (W, 25 saves, 8-5-0-2) continued his lofty shutout streak by turning aside seven Cincinnati shots to keep his team ahead by one after 20 minutes.
Orlando added to their edge at the 6:20 mark of the middle frame as Peter Sivak fed Patrick Watling in front of the net, who promptly buried his eighth goal of the season - making the game 2-0. The Cyclones finally got on the board at 14:42 when Christiaan Minella tipped home Josh McFadden's point shot for his seventh goal of the year and cut the deficit to one at the second intermission.
The Solar Bears pulled back out in front by a pair with another power play strike at the 8:54 mark of the final stanza, this time from Brock Montgomery as he redirected Mike Keenan's shot into the net. In an attempt to rally as time wound down, the Cyclones pulled Madore for an extra skater; as Cincinnati made its way into the offensive zone, a great feed from Joe Basaraba to Steven Hodges set up a Cyclones goal, as Hodges buried one from the mid-slot. Unfortunately, that tally at 18:47 would be all that the Cyclones could muster as they fell by a 3-2 decision.
The Cyclones will be back on the ice at U.S. Bank Arena tomorrow night when they welcome in the Fort Wayne Komets at 7:30pm! The Cyclones honor all Superheroes with specialty jerseys plus appearances by some of your favorite Marvels characters. The Cyclones will auction off specialty jerseys immediately after the game!
