Ginn Blanks Warriors in 34-Save Effort

March 13, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

Estero, FL - The Greenville Road Warriors (31-26-4), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, outshot the Florida Everblades (39-13-6) by a whopping 34-19 margin, but could not solve goaltender Matt Ginn, who made his professional debut, in a 3-0 loss at Germain Arena on Friday.

It was the second time in the last six days that Florida has blanked Greenville with a rookie netminder in his professional debut. Last Friday, Anthony Peters made 32 saves to shut out the Road Warriors at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

With the setback, Greenville is just one point ahead of fifth-place Orlando for the final playoff spot in the East Division. Elmira is two points behind the Road Warriors in sixth place.

The Road Warriors outshot Florida 16-1 in the first 20 minutes, but could not find the back of the net despite high-percentage chances from Josh Nicholls and Anthony Luciani late in the period. The opening frame also included one fight when Sean Escobedo dropped the gloves with Brant Harris at the 13:43 mark. It was Escobedo's first tilt with the Road Warriors and his second professional bout.

Steven Whitney put the Everblades on top 1-0 with his fifth goal of the season at 7:04 of the middle frame. From the right wing, Cameron Burt filtered a feed to Whitney in front, who settled the pass and placed a forehand shot past the glove of goaltender Jason Missiaen.

Florida extended its lead on the power play at 13:47 of the third period when Alex Lavoie centered a pass for Jordan Henry, who guided a one-timer from below the hash marks past Missiaen's left leg pad. The goal was Henry's sixth of the season, while Thomas Frazee served a hooking minor.

Head coach Dean Stork emptied his net at 17:38 of the third period, but Florida's Mike Little nailed the coffin shut at the 19:00 mark with a shorthanded empty netter. With Whitney in the box for delay of game, Little scored his 12th goal of the season, which came during a 6-on-4 Greenville attack.

The Road Warriors finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill. Missiaen (12-13-3) stopped 16 shots in the loss.
