
Countdown to Face-Off: Kalamazoo Wings at Wheeling Nailers

Will anything strange occur when the Kalamazoo Wings travel to the WesBanco Arena to take on the Wheeling Nailers on Friday the 13th? On the season, the K-Wings are 1-2-0-0 against the Nailers. Following today, the teams will square off once more at Wings Stadium on April 4th.
This evening will commence a three-game road swing for the K-Wings. On the season, Kalamazoo is 12-12-1-2 away from Wings Stadium. Looking for some separation in the standings, the K-Wings are three points ahead of the Cincinnati Cyclones for third and four points in front of the Nailers.
After closing out a three-game road trip with a 5-2 victory over the Evansville IceMen, the Nailers return home to start a three-game home stand. Wheeling has played stellar at home going 17-9-1-0 at the WesBanco Arena.

It's Been Awhile
Matt Caria recorded his first professional hat trick on Wednesday night. The hat trick was the K-Wings first since March 28, 2012, a span of 202 games.
Ponich Debuts
Earlier today defenseman Brett Ponich was reassigned to the K-Wings. Ponich, who played for Kalamazoo last season, started the season this season in the AHL with the Springfield Falcons.
Record Tying Performance
On Wednesday, forward Gergo Nagy recorded five points (1 goal, 4 assists). The five points and four assists both tied team ECHL records for Kalamazoo.
On the Road Again
Tonight the K-Wings will begin a three-game road swing. Kalamazoo is 12-12-1-2 away from Wings Stadium this season.
An Army of One
Wheeling's Derek Army is not afraid to shoot the puck. With 190 shots, Army, is on a four-game point streak, leads all ECHL rookies in shots on goal.
Dropping the Hammer
Forwards Zach Torquato and Riley Brace have been racking up the points. Torquato is on a six-game point streak, while Brace has earned points in eight straight games.
Giving Up the Shorties
The Nailers have surrendered 13 shorthanded goals this season. The 13 shorthanders are tied with the Utah Grizzlies for the most allowed in the league.
Nearing History
Nailers Head Coach Clark Donatelli earned his 124th career win behind the team's bench on Tuesday. That number pulls him into a tie for first place on Wheeling's all-time list along with Doug Sauter, who posted 124 victories during his time with the Thunderbirds from 1992-95.
