Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Moosic, PA - In gut wrenching fashion the Lehigh Valley IronPigs dropped a dramatic battle 10-9, in 10 innings, to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (41-42, 7-2) on Friday night at PNC Field.
The IronPigs opened the scoring right away in the first innings. Jake Cave walked to open the game and Drew Ellis doubled him home before Kody Clemens brought in Ellis with a base hit.
A five-run fifth opened a huge lead for the IronPigs. Simon Muzziotti ripped an RBI double before Dustin Peterson drove in two more with another double. Esteban Quiroz wrapped the scoring in the frame with a two-run single.
The RailRiders started their comeback charge in the sixth. They scratched out a run on a RBI single from Carlos Narvaez before plating two more in the seventh on an Everson Pereira base hit.
The first three reached to open the eighth on two hit batters and a walk before Michael Hermosillo launched a game-tying grand slam, knotting the score at 7-7.
In the 10th, Scott Kingery scored the placed runner for the IronPigs with a double, but the RailRiders walked it off in the bottom half, down to their final strike, as Wilmer Difo popped a two-run homer to end the game, 10-9, RailRiders.
Gregg Weissert (3-2) collects the win for the RailRiders, allowing one unearned run in the 10th on a hit, striking out two.
Ben Bowden (2-2) suffered the loss for the IronPigs, allowing two runs (one earned) in the 10th on one hit.
