Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

CHARLOTTE - Home runs from Peyton Burdick, Jordan Groshans and Paul McIntosh and a bases-clearing triple from Austin Allen helped the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp erase a four-run deficit to beat the Charlotte Knights 11-6 from Truist Field.

Charlotte (36-48, 1-8) led 5-1 in the second inning when Jacksonville (39-45, 7-3) began its comeback. With two outs, Xavier Edwards, who collected three hits for the fifth game in a row, singled. Burdick followed with a two-run shot off Knights starter Nate Fisher (5-9) to halve the lead.

The Jumbo Shrimp grabbed command in the fourth. Groshans led off the inning with a home run. McIntosh walked, and after a pair of outs, Jacob Amaya laced a double to put runners on second and third. Edwards then grounded a ball towards the hole on the left side of the infield, beating the throw to allow McIntosh to score and tie the score at five. After Burdick was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Allen cleared them with a triple down the right field line for Jacksonville's first lead.

In the fifth inning, an error put Clint Frazier on before Lenyn Sosa walked. Following a double play, Stephen Piscotty notched an RBI single to pull the Knights within 8-6.

However, that was as close as Charlotte would get. McIntosh went yard in the seventh, and in the eighth, the Jumbo Shrimp put the game out of reach. Jake Mangum singled to lead things off. After a ground out, Edwards singled and stole second. Burdick then laced a two-run double to set the final margin at 11-6.

The Knights jumped out to a huge lead on starter Enmanuel De Jesus (3-3). Yolbert Sanchez led off the bottom of the first with a walk. Two batters after that, Sosa doubled before Victor Reyes collected an RBI single. A Piscotty sacrifice fly made it 2-0. De Jesus then yielded a single to Erik González and a walk to Sebastian Rivero to load the bases. Nate Mondou followed with a two-run double, though a 9-4-2 relay caught Rivero at the plate to end a four-run first.

Burdick drew a walk to jumpstart the second. After a pair of fly outs, Groshans was hit by a pitch. McIntosh's single plated Burdick to get the Jumbo Shrimp on the board. However, in the bottom of the second, Billy Hamilton homered for the first time in two years to get things to 5-1.

De Jesus was able to get through 6.0 innings before yielded to Geoff Hartlieb, who struck out two in 2.0 perfect frames. Dylan Bice worked a perfect ninth inning.

The victory was Jacksonville's fourth in a row, sealing the club's first series win since taking four of six from May 2-6 at Memphis.

The Jumbo Shrimp look to match a season-high winning streak with Saturday's 7:04 p.m. contest. RHP Johnny Cueto (0-0, 12.23 ERA) starts for Jacksonville against Charlotte LHP John Parke (1-5, 7.54 ERA). Coverage begins at 6:49 p.m. on ESPN 690 and www.ESPN690.com.
