Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (50-33) were held to just one run, dropping game four of the series to the St. Paul Saints (50-34) by a score of 4-1, Friday at Principal Park.
Neither team scored for the first six innings, as Dallas Keuchel and Hayden Wesneski continued their success at Triple-A. Keuchel spun 5.2 scoreless innings, working around five hits and four walks with four strikeouts.
In his first start back with Iowa, Wesneski fanned six batters over his 3.0 innings, allowing just two hits and one walk. He was replaced by Riley Martin, who kept the Saints off the board in 2.0 innings of work.
For the first time this series, St. Paul got on the board first, putting up a four-spot in the seventh. They scored the four runs on a bases loaded walk followed by an RBI single and two sacrifice flies.
Iowa loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth but scored just one run on a passed ball. Down 4-1, Iowa brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Patrick Murphy earned his fifth save of the year with a scoreless inning to earn St. Paul their first win of the series.
POSTGAME NOTES:
Luis Vazquez went 2-for-3 with a walk, giving him three straight multi-hit games. The shortstop is now hitting .379 through nine games with Iowa this year.
Yonathan Perlaza set the tone for Iowa's lineup, going 2-for-4 with a walk out of the leadoff spot.
Iowa and St. Paul will play game five of the series tomorrow night, with first pitch from Principal Park set for 6:08 p.m. CT. You can listen to all Iowa Cubs games on Hope AM940 and stream them for free on the Bally Live App. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
