Louisville Bats News Release
TOLEDO, OH - Four Bats starters produced multi-hit efforts as the Louisville Bats (44-39) defeated the Toledo MudHens (37-47) 10-4 on Friday night at Fifth Third Field.
The Bats got to work early, scoring three runs in the game's opening frame. Stuart Fairchild led the game off with a line drive double followed by a single by Alejo Lopez in the at-bat. Matt Reynolds smacked a triple to center field to bring home the first two runs. After the MudHens sat the next batter, Henry Ramos singled to left field to allow Reynolds to cross home plate, to take an early 3-0 lead.
Toledo scratched across their first run of the ballgame in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Bats lead to 3-1.
Louisville began the top of the fifth inning with a leadoff single by Michael Siani and back-to-back walks to load the bases. In the following plate appearance, Reynolds singled to left field and, paired with a fielding error, cleared the bases and extended the lead to 6-1.
Toledo responded in the bottom half of the inning with three runs of their own to cut the deficit to 6-4.
After a couple of quiet innings, the Bats extended their lead again in the top of the eighth inning. Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Ramos got the effort started with back-to-back singles followed by a walk by TJ Hopkins to load the bases. Jose Barrero followed suit with a sacrifice fly to lock in a 7-4 lead for Louisville.
The Bats scored three more runs on three singles and two walks in the top of the ninth inning to secure the 10-4 win over the MudHens.
Louisville and Toledo will continue the six-game series tomorrow night, Saturday, July 8th with game four. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm E.T. as righty Levi Stoudt (2-3, 4.78) will make the start the Bats against former Bat and current MudHen Ashton Goudeau (1-4, 7.93).
