Newfoundland Growlers News Release
The Newfoundland Growlers made it three wins a row this week as they topped the Maine Mariners 4-1 on Saturday night at Mary Brown's Centre.
Jeremy McKenna opened the scoring for the second straight night, this time just 34 seconds in, beating Mariners goaltender Callum Booth with a glove-side blast on the first shot of the game to make it 1-0 Growlers.
Evan Neugold doubled Newfoundland's lead with 5:30 left in the opening frame as he deflected home a great pass from Derian Plouffe for his first goal of the season to make it 2-0 Growlers after 20 minutes.
Ryan Chyzowski got his name on the scoresheet in the second period with a great individual effort and hot shot under the crossbar to make it 3-0 Newfoundland with 13:15 left in the 2nd.
Matthew Santos would get one back for Maine midway through the second as he beat Keith Petruzzelli in a scramble in front of the Growlers net seconds after a Mariners power play expired. The Growlers led 3-1 going into the third period.
McKenna would add a second goal for the second straight night as he beat Booth high once again, this time to the blocker side, making it 4-1 Growlers on the power play with 11:41 left in the game.
Newfoundland would hold on to their three goal lead to take a 4-1 victory, marking their 20th win on the season in the process.
Quick Hits
Keith Petruzzelli has given up just two goals in his last four starts.
The Growlers penalty kill has killed off 20 straight powerplay opportunities for the opposition including a five minute major on Saturday.
These two teams finish up a four-game series tomorrow with a matinee puck drop set for 2 pm.
