Gateway Grizzlies News Release
FLORENCE, KY - Carlton Salters broke a 4-4 tie with a two-run home run in the ninth inning and the Gateway Grizzlies held on for an 8-5 win over the Florence Freedom Thursday night at the Home of the Freedom.
The win was Gateway's fourth in a row and it gave them the series sweep. It was Gateway's first series sweep since June 3-5.
With the game tied at four heading into the ninth, Salters smoked his second homer in the pros to give Gateway a two-run lead. Case Rigby would add insurance for the Grizzlies with a two-run single.
Florence (39-54) got on the board first in game three of the series. Drew Rundle singled with one out in the second inning and reached third on a Justin Holloway double. Kevin Haas drove in the first Freedom run on a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.
Gateway (39-53) recorded four extra base hits in the fourth inning, which led to three runs. Joe Agreste led off with a triple and Charlie Lisk followed with a triple of his own to get the Grizzlies on the board. Rigby and Tyler Heil followed with RBI doubles to make it 3-1 Grizzlies. Gateway scored a run on a wild pitch in the fifth to increase their lead to three runs.
Cole Miles hit a three-run triple in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at four. The game would stay tied all the way until the ninth.
Heil paced the Grizzlies offense with a 4-for-4 night, while Rigby went 3-for-5 with three RBI.
Richard Barrett (4-3) picked up the win in relief for Gateway. Barrett surrendered one run in one-plus innings. Chris Enourato came in to notch the save. It was Enourato's 11th of the season.
The Grizzlies begin a three-game season-ending series with the River City Rascals on Friday night at GCS Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.
