LOVES PARK, Ill. - The lower portion of the Rockford batting order had a productive night as the RiverHawks split a doubleheader with the Traverse City Beach Bums on Wednesday at Road Ranger Stadium.

The six through nine spots in the order was a combined 7-for-12 and drove in seven runs in the opener as the RiverHawks beat the Bums, 10-6. The same spots went 7-for-15 in the nightcap, but the heart of the Traverse City lineup hit three home runs as the Beach Bums rallied for a 9-6 win.

No. 6 hitter Luis Parache was 4-for-4 with a RBI in the opener and 6-for-8 in the doubleheader. The RiverHawks rallied for three runs off reliever Jeff Cinadr (2-2) in the fifth inning of the opener and broke a 5-5 tie. Parache led off with a single, advanced on a sacrifice and scored the go-ahead run on Gabe DeMarco's single to right field. Greg Van Horn followed with his first professional home run, a two-run fly that bounced off the top of the fence in dead center field.

Rockford reliever Kevin Patterson (1-3) pitched two scoreless, hitless innings for his first professional win.

Traverse City hit seven home runs in the doubleheader. In the first game, Stephen Shults homered twice. Chase Burch and Chris Kay also homered.

In the nightcap, the Beach Bums erased a 5-4 Rockford lead with back-to-back, fifth-inning home runs off Rockford starter Matt Gibbs. Jose Vargas hit a two-run homer to left-center to put Traverse City in front and Matt Brown homered to right to drive Gibbs (1-5) from the hill. J.T. Hall hit his 21st home run of the year in the sixth inning.

Traverse City reliever Scott Reid (1-2) was awarded the win because starter David Nathanson did not last five innings. Scott Mueller relieved Reid with the bases loaded and the tying run at the plate in the sixth inning. He struck out Michael Hur to end the threat. Mueller allowed an unearned run in the seventh, but picked up his 21st save.

Rockford's David Cooper was 4-for-7 with five stolen bases in the doubleheader. Cooper, with 41 steals, broke Doug Schutt's seven-year-old team record of 39.

The rubber match of the three-game series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Thirsty Thursday. Miller Lite and RBI's Bar & Grill sponsors dollar beer and soft drinks.
